Philadelphia themed weddings. . . .

Anyone doing a Philadelphia themed wedding ? Im just looking for more ideas for ours !

Re: Philadelphia themed weddings. . . .

  • Ours isn't a Philly theme, but since we're having it in MN and we're from here, we're trying to incorporate little bits and pieces in our wedding.

We'll be going around to our favorite places in Philly (LOVE Park, Rittenhouse, Jagermisters Bar :-D, etc.) and having pictures taken, and those will be the table names/numbers.

For our guestbook, we're having big wooden LOVE letters for guests to sign, and then put them together into the symbol to hang on our wall. Here's my inspiriation pic for the letters:

(except the O would be turned the correct way, heh)

Our favors/escort card holders with the LOVE park symbol stenciled on:

And one of the other brides on here, Jelybean, is making table number holders similar to our escort card holders, but she found mini Liberty Bells and is turning them into table number holders, which I thought was a super cute idea! :)
  • We are incorporating Philly things...like tastykakes as favors, Phillies color candy bar....we live in MN but are getting married in Ambler.

Smilesavy, that is too funny that you live in MN and are getting married here, and we're the exact opposite! :-D

And friends of mine had the soft pretzels as their late night snack and it went over really well! They got them from Tasty Twisters in Roxborough, and got a pretty great deal if you're looking for a pretzel vendor. http://web.me.com/jea82/tastytwisters/Home.html

Oh, and I almost forgot - we're doing mini cheese steaks as our late night snack. The venue made them special for us and we got to taste them last month and they were awesome! I'm really excited about them! :)
  • We did.  DH is from San Francisco and I'm from Cincinnati and we have really embraced our new home.  This is going to be long so bear with me.  I DIY'd everything and used deep red card stock  and "parchment" resume paper.

What is not in the photos:

The feather pens that I got at the National Constitution Center.

The OOT welcome letter with a Ben quote " A true friend is the best possession."

Attached to the bottle of beer in the OOT bag was "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."  We also included a Philly pretzel wrapped in wax paper, a map of downtown (and the subway system) and suggestions on where to go (with a recommendation to get tickets for Independence Hall early) and what restaurants we'd found and loved.

The invitations were fold overs.  The front said:

    U.S. Constitution
We the people in order to form a more perfect union....
    ....What a good idea

Open it and the invitation was inside.

  • Yeah I was thinking about mini cheesesteaks, Ill have to ask our venue about them.... I was also thinking about water ice too.... Okay Im getting hungry lol . Thanks, im going to check out that pretzel place !
  • We have Ben Franklin greeting the guests at the cocktail hour. Phillies rally towels and soft pretzels on the way out, and the Phanatic is going to come a dance with the guest for 30 minutes. I am sending Charlie Manual an invitation. Haha
  • Crackle6 that is crazy!!!!  :)  If you tell me your date is August 25th I am going to be really freaked out!!

So this is a silly question but is the "late night snack" trend hitting the east coast?  This is something VERY common here in the mid-west but haven't been to a east coast wedding in some time...if it is a new trend I think we may need to consider bringing something in.

  • My fiancé and I are also doing the philly theme. For my bridesmaids I bought them these beautiful love statue necklaces from www.lovestatue.com. The shop owner, Mary, was amazing during the process. She was considerate of our budget so she created a special listing for me on etsy so that I could afford to buy all 6 of my bridesmaids these necklaces. I ordered them only 1 week ago and I got them in the mail today! I love them and can't wait to give them to my girls!
  • Where are you purchasing the rally towels from?

    Thanks!!

We bought LOVE statue place card holders: http://www.myweddingfavors.com/silver-love-placecard-holders.html
We're also getting a tray of mini soft pretzels delivered from the Philly Pretzel Factory for the cocktail hour. We're doing TastyKakes on the dessert table and our favors are candies made in (or near) Philly, like Peanut Chews, Mike and Ikes, Hot Tamales, etc.
We're also looking into hiring a Mummers' string band to play during the cocktail hour and when the bridal party enters. My girls and I are all wearing golden slippers (which are so comfortable to change into after heels.)
Also try having a signature cocktail with a cute Philly name and name the tables after special places in the city (Love Park, South Street, etc.) or even neighborhoods (Mayfair, Fishtown, Port Richmond, etc.).
Hope that gives you some ideas!
