Artificial Flowers?

Hey ladies... So I keep going back and forth between real and artificial flowers for the day! I would love, love, love to have real flowers for bouquets and decorating... but the price tag that comes with them is scaring me! I just went to a wedding this past weekend, and realized yesterday I have NO idea what the bouquets the girls had looked like! I would hate to spend so much money on something that could be just so overlooked (like I did Saturday). Just wondering what your input is on this.

Thanks!

Re: Artificial Flowers?

  • If you wander over to the boards about flowers/decor, you'll probably see 90% of the posts hating all over artificial flowers.  People can be so condescending!  I like the idea of being able to keep your bouquet forever - I'm actually looking into a broach bouquet right now.

I completely agree with your practical thinking - I keep finding ways to eliminate things that people don't pay attention to (escort cards was the most recent one).  If you look on Etsy, there are some vendors that do amazing things with silk flowers.  Idk if you're a DIY-er, but I've seen some cool templates for making paper flowers too - that could definitely be a way to save.

I'm curious to see what you end up deciding!

  • I'm having real flowers, but that's just my personal preference. The only thing I would say about artificial flowers (and why I think a lot of people hate on them) is to make sure they look real. I see people get artificial flowers to match their wedding colors and the flowers they pick don't even come in those colors so they are clearly fake. They make some really nice looking artificial flowers now that you can barely tell, but they come with a pretty hefty price tag too.

  • I am still up in the air myself about weather to go with real or artificial. Just dont want them to look fake.
  • I was thinking about doing artificial and went to Michaels, etc to see the quality. Horrible!!!! Thanks to Knotties, I heard about afloral. I purchased a few items figuring if they were horrible I wasnt out lots of money! Honestly, when I received them (hydrangeas, roses) I was pleasantly surprised. I set them in a vase. When my fiance came over, he thought I they were real! Everyone does. IMO, their prices are amazing too! Every time they have a free shipping or 20% off I order more.

    I highly recommend this vendor!

I'm having real flowers as well. I did consider making my own centerpieces with fake flowers but found the work and logistics of set up/take down to be too much for me.  If you go the fake flower route, I agree with @tammym1001 - make sure they look real....maybe try to "hide that they are fake".  I was going to do submerged flower centerpieces using the fake flowers and a floating candle on top, kinda like this:

I did buy some & test it out so it is totally doable, just with the size of my wedding doing it on my own would not have worked for me.

  • Thanks everybody! Yes, the main part for me is I want them to at least LOOK real. Which I know can be hard. I have looked a little on Etsy on some of their silk flowers options, and I will now definitely look into afloral. I only get nervous ordering online, with not being able to see them in person before purchasing... but good to know afloral may be cheap enough that it would't be a huge deal :)

And thanks for the idea @ArtTeacher23! Those are gorgeous! And actually have considered a few ideas with submerged flowers for some decorations!
