Budget photog. And photo booth.

I am helping my sister-in-law search for a photographer for her December wedding. They would like to stay around $600 for the day with a release of the images. I have seen several people who fit this, but when I was planning my wedding, the knot boards were super helpful and I thought I'd check here.

Also, they'd like a photo booth, too. Are there any budget options for that?

Thanks!

  • I see a lot of photobook deals on groupon, that is where I got mine. The groupons are usually $375-$400
  • Good to know that photo booths show up on groupon.  I too am debating looking for one.  It is on my would love to but depends on where everything else comes in on the budget list!

I would say forget the photobooth, and spend that money on the photographer. You will definately get someone more experienced at $1,000 + range. The pictures of the wedding & portraits are way more important than silly photobooth pictures. Just my 2 cents...
  • Get a decent photographer that can bring a backdrop set up. Go to a dollar store, party store or costume place & buy a bunch of props. Set the box of props next to the photographer's backdrop set up and have photobooth style pictures taken by your professional photographer. Photos are not instant but probably better quality.
  • The photo booth isn't for quality photos - It's for entertaining your guests!  It should supplement, not replace, your wedding photographer.  We attended a quincinara party, and the guests were having a blast taking their photos with a professional booth called Fun Stop Photos (www.funstopphotos.com).  It has a camera and screen to take group photos from the back of the machine, in addition to seated photos inside.  Every one of every age was taking their photos and having fun.  And, you would get to keep a USB stick of the guest photos.  If you can't afford to rent one yourself, then ask your banquet hall to get one from Fun Stop Photos for you.

Another suggestion is to hire a professional makeup artist to do your makeup before the wedding.  It adds to your cost, but all of your photography fees are wasted if you don't look awesome in your wedding photos.

  • We just used a photo booth from Soundscape DJs and it was very reasonable. They web site is www.soundscapediscjockey.com. They are in West Chicago.
  • Try Concept One for the photo booth.  They tend to run packages.   Also check Groupon because many photo booths will run specials.  My friend booked Magnolia through either Groupon or Living Social.

  • The modern 'photo booth' at weddings is just a backdrop and a digital printer, maybe some prop wigs/hats/mustaches.  You can easily do this on your own or have a teenager run this instead of paying an extra $500 to a company.  You'll truly never find a photographer PLUS a booth photographer (they use an assistant to run the booth) for $600 with the image files.
