Popcorn Bar

Hi all! I am thinking about doing a popcorn bar for the wedding reception. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use ( and from where) for the bags? I'm thinking paper or plastic? If anyone has done this before or good ideas I would appreciate it!!!

Re: Popcorn Bar

  • I got some cute mini popcorn boxes at Party City for my sister's shower. They're 5 for 99 cents and they come in a ton of colors.
  • I second Oriental Trading. What else would you have with the bar?
  • As much as I like popcorn, oily fingers in formal clothing and kernels in my teeth doesn't sound like the best idea.

Good point. Alternatively you could give popcorn as favors (pre-bagged). Or I think it would be neat to bring out a popcorn machine as a late night snack type thing.

After 6 years and 2 boys, finally tying the knot on October 27th, 2013!

  • That's why I asked what else was going with the bar. I'm not a fan of popcorn at all, so I would be disappointed there was nothing for me.
  • I am pro popcorn favors, and would suggest another combination of salty sweet treats for a late night snack. Although if it's a favor, I suggest kettle corn.

  • Eh...unless it is pre packaged for people to take with them, I'm not a big fan of this idea. I envision oily popcorn, popcorn spilling and people putting their hands in bowls/containers (I have a serious problem with touching food after other people touch it). Candy bars are better because the candy is wrapped....so if you can have the popcorn already in little bags that's one thing...but loose popcorn I vote no

    Anniversary
  • I had a flavored popcorn bar, and we used take out boxes from nashvillewraps.com, and put a sitcker on the side (from Vistaprint) that said 'Thanks for popping in to celebrate with us!'. Super easy and relatively cheap.

They worked out great! What flavors are you going to have?

  • Dollar Tree here has 25 clear bags for $1. We had vanilla butter nut popcorn in our wedding colors in wide half pint mason jars for one of our favors. People enjoyed the snack :-9

  • We're serving popcorn and homemade chips during cocktail hour (in addition to passed apps). I personally think it's a great idea. But I'm a fan of popcorn.

I ordered white paper bags from webrestaurantstore.com, trimmed them down with scalloped scissors and finished them with a subtle monogram stamp. They look pretty cute, I admit.

Oriental Trading's popcorn boxes sure are sweet, too!

I agree that something should be offered in addition to popcorn since not everyone likes popcorn.

I also probably wouldn't do popcorn unless I was having a baseball themed wedding or something, but that's just me.
  • I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and they had a old school popcorn vendor cart and a cotton candy machine. Their wedding wasn't circus/carnival or anything, it was just for a fun factor. It was a hit. Everyone loved that they did blue and pink cotton candy too! For the popcorn, they used the red and white striped bags and filled them about halfway.  They also had an adult in charge of both stations filling the bags and spinning the cotton candy for the kids.

  • I ordered these and they worked great (http://www.orientaltrading.com/mini-silver-popcorn-boxes-a2-3_5354-12-1.fltr?Ntt=popcorn box). I had plain, cheese and carmel corn on the popcorn bar, but I also included M&Ms and peanuts on the popcorn bar.  Some people like to mix them with their popcorn, but it also allowed those that don't like popcorn something to eat.
  • Thanks everyone for the feedback/comments.

We are debating between a popcorn bar or a candy bar (or a mix?)

The popcorn flavors would include: cinnamon, Chicago mix, rainbow and butter

The candy would be a "standard" candy bar set up.

  • I'd go with candy bar and maybe caramel corn in pre made packages.
