Wedding photos: Fremont St or Las Vegas Strip?

I need a little help to decide where exactly to take pictures after the ceremony: Fremont St area or Las Vegas Strip? What do you think? I have an extra hour of photography and need to decide where to go ...

Re: Wedding photos: Fremont St or Las Vegas Strip?

  • When and where is your wedding? Right now, they are doing some work on Fremont Street so that may hinder the appearance of pictures. If your ceremony and reception are closer to Fremont I'd go there. But if you want Las Vegas Blvd, there's the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign.

  • My wedding is within 2 weeks and 3 days!! My reception dinner is at Maggiano's .... I didn't know Fremont Street has some construction .... thank you for letting me know ... I guess I will take pictures on the strip by Maggiano's!!
  • They're working on expanding the zip line, or something like that. We were down this over the weekend and it was a mess!!! By Maggianos is nice because you're not far from getting good pics outside a lot of the hotels. The Venetian and Bellagio make for GREAT pics!

  • In my opinion, you should go to the location that you are closest too.  My brother got married this weekend and things ran a little bit late.  They were planning on driving to a different location to do the picture but ran out of time.  I think it is better to have more time for taking pictures than losing time traveling to the destination.
  • once again, thank you very much for all responses! i am finalizing everything and your comments really help me!!! still 2 more weeks to go ..........
  • I would go with the strip for photos.  My wife and I did Neon Museum and Fremont for our 1st anniversary pics and there's a few things on Fremont but really nothing all that exciting to take pictures in front of; you could easily knock out all the good spots in 30 minutes.

On the strip I think there are much more exciting pics to be had, like Bellagio Fountains, the LOVE sign at the Mirage, Planet Hollywood lobby, Bellagio lobby and/or botanical gardens, Vegas sign of course, balcony at Mix Lounge or Foundation Room, Venetian grounds and/or gondola/canal area inside, the pirate ship, Eiffel Tower, etc.

  • I agree that the strip has some fantastic locations but if it will be nighttime when you're having the photos there are some good Neon signs and bright lights at the Fremont St end of the strip. We're thinking of having a few photos on the strip during our DDB tour which is in daylight (Eiffel Tower, Bellagio fountains), and then going further up the strip after our reception when it is dark to get some of the light set ups like the Circus Circus entrance and Riviera entrances:

  • Couple ideas for downtown photos in Mike L's blog from our anniv last year:  http://www.mikelphotos.com/neon-boneyard-anniversary

I think we'll do a strip tour with him on one of our future anniversaries; haven't done that yet.

  • Wow, @vegasgroom I LOVE this photo!

How did Mike manage to light only where you're sitting? Or did he edit the photo afterwards?

  • I can guess at how he did that since I started getting into photography a bit after our wedding.  If you have a camera that can do it, it's called a high dynamic range (HDR) photo.  You could also do it manually if you have a tripod, but it becomes very difficult if what you're photographing could move.

What the camera does for you, or you do manually, is take 3, 5, 7 or even more photos with different exposure values for each one.  Some cameras that have the feature are fast enough to even do 3-exposure HDR pictures while hand held, but most of the time a tripod is advisable.

The faster exposures will pick up the brighter areas of the picture while the slower exposures pick up content in the darker, or much darker, areas of the frame by allowing more light in, at the expense of washing out the bright areas.  In this case, he probably discarded most of the images in between the first and last because the first, fastest, exposure got the bright neon sign and then the much longer last exposure picked us up in the dim street light.  Merge them together using something like Adobe Lightroom and there you have it.

  • Ah I see, complicated but very effective! Will pass this info onto my other half as he's getting into his photography at the moment :)

Okay, I over analyzed and have a bad memory lol.  I asked Mike about it and it was not that complicated.  It was just two pictures.  He snapped one, then, with his wife Courtney standing over us with a light, snapped a second.  Little bit of merge action in photoshop and you have the final product.

In my defense, I was drinking a 32 ounce vodka and coke from Four Queens haha.
