Ta Das and To Dos!

This may have been done recently but I don't recall seeing one in a while...

Ta Das (things we've accomplished in the past week)
  • Purchased the ring bearers shirts (matches FI and his men)
  • Decided I'm only making one bout - it will be for my dad - FI and his groomsmen are wearing Hawaiian shirts - so I doubt anyone will notice they don't have one
  • Confirmed one reading for the ceremony - Picked three others for FI to choose from
  • Decided on decor
  • Sent final menu to venue
  • Confirmed which county I need to get my license in (will take care of this Labor Day weekend)
To Dos (in the next two weeks)
  • Decide if I want a cake to cut or just stick with a cupcake to cut - if so order
  • Pick out rings
  • Stamp envelopes to get ready to send on the new 9/1 deadline
  • Get undergarments for dress fitting on 8/27
  • Schedule trial appointment for hair and makeup over Labor Day weekend
  • Keep on trucking away at planning our honeymoon
Would love to hear how everyone else is doing!

  • Ta-da's:
    Finished my bouquet!
Almost finished off my card box (the edge just needs to be finished off)
Dress fits! Jewelry is all here, shoes are here, veil is done.
    Made my hair trial appointment.
Ordered the other 24 floating candles and 72 votives for under $70!
Also ordered more ribbon for my tissue packets.
Painted the dish for the tissue packets.

    To-do's:
    Finish addressing the invites
    MAIL THEM.
Buy a plane ticket for the end of September so we can get our marriage license and I can do my hair trial.
    Figure out the program wording.
    Finish painting the frigging vases.
Figure out what the heck I'm doing for the boutonnieres.

I know there's more, but that's what I've got off the top of my head.

  • Ta Das (things we've accomplished in the past week)
    • Picked out and purchased our rings today!
    • Had my ring sent off to be resized from a 7 to a 5
    • Mailed out the contract for our new DJ (our previous DJ stopped replying to messages and the deposit was never sent as a result)
    • Tasted wines for the wedding
    • Sent the final guest list out so that envelopes could start being addressed
To Dos (in the next two weeks)
    • Decide if I'm using real or 'real touch' (AKA fake) flowers for our centerpieces
    • Finish invitation asembly to have them mailed out within the next week or so
    • Order the rest of the candles for the centerpieces
    • Finish the bridesmaids bags
    • Get my ears pierced so that I can wear my mom's diamond earings for my 'something borrowed'

I don't have a whole lot on either list.  This past weekend, my father and nephew (ringbearer) got fitted for their tuxes. I went with them, which was kinda fun.

    To do:

    • Ring for FI
    • Choose exact ceremony readings
    • Have programs created
    • Buy remaining gifts for bridal party members (the kids, mostly. FI will handle the gifts for his groomsmen)
    • Finalize first dance and other spotlight dance songs
....And I think that's it. There are other little things like pick up the license after a certain date and make a reservation at a certain restaurant for our honeymoon, but other than that, we are really on track.

  • @schellzinator  It's not the guestbook. It's something I came across on one of the DIY boards. I will post pic and template. Hopefully you will be able to see it. Mine are on gray granite cardstock instead of brown.

  • Welcome. I gave FI a choice of 3 different ones and that's the one he picked. No clue why he picked the mason jar because there's no other mason jars in our wedding. haha!

    • Get my ears pierced so that I can wear my mom's diamond earings for my 'something borrowed'
Why not just convert them to screw-backs?  At this point, you're so close to the wedding, that your ears might not heal in time, and let me tell you, it is PAINFUL to wear earrings if you happen to end up allergic to the metal in the studs, or your ears aren't finished healing, or your body rejects the piercing (been there, done that, and I even switched the type of metal used, and that STILL didn't help).

Just a thought, rather than run the risk of red and inflamed piercings on your wedding day.  :)  And that's coming from someone who'd pop more holes in her ears if FI'd be cool with it (2 in my left lobe, 1 in the right, a cartilage in my upper left ear and both of my tragus are pierced [I want an industrial at the least]).

i agree with you. they may not heal in time. this is coming from a girl who has 13 piercings in her ears. tragus, rook, cartilage and 3 each in my lobs.

  • I'd pop more holes in my head if FI'd let me (and they were okay at work).  You're lucky @joellennitsche!  I find them a bit addicting.  Course, tattoos are addicting too!!  :)

I recently (okay, yesterday) had a conversation with FH about a possible tattoo.... something I've never really expressed interested in before. But I sent this to him as a possible matching sisters tattoo and he said "It's very you", haha. So. Who knows. Apparently he's been thinking about one too, though he doesn't really know what he wants.

I had actually just assumed that they'd be healed by the end of October honestly. I had my ears pierced years ago (toddler), but let them heal over because one wasn't straight and kept getting infected. I had just never gotten around to getting them redone, and my flowergirl has been begging me to get mine done when she does hers this month.

  • It takes atleast 6 weeks for ears to heal. It took mine almost 6 months to totally heal because I'm very sensitive to metals. My daughter had hers pierced almost 1 year ago and is still battling the redness around the holes.

Hope it all works out for you!

A small little tattoo like that is ADORABLE!!  And that tattoo itself is SUPER cute!  GO FOR IT @lplions!!!  :)  But I'm gonna warn you; tattoos really are like potato chips, it's hard to stop at just one.  *g*

My first tat, I put it out of the way so if I happened to hate it, I didn't have to look at it.  Got that one, and haven't looked back since!  Now, if I could just talk FI into loving the back piece I want....:)

@Psychoangel2u; I'd be wary then about doing the piercings.  Especially if you've already had some kind of reaction in the past to a metal.  Piercings can just take -forever- to heal sometimes.  I'd take those earrings and look at just doing a conversion, or, perhaps "pin" them to your bouquet or something else instead of doing a piercing this close to your wedding.
  • @shaylagirl That's what I hear..... which is partly why I'm so hesitant to get one, haha. If I do, it will definitely NOT be before October - that's guaranteed. Heck, it probably wouldn't even be this year. I'm not in a hurry to get one. Though, if I do start in on the tattoo train, I know I'll get small ones. Maybe an outline of a cat? Hmm........

    CRAP. lol
  • @lplions; Honestly, I think ANY tattoo should be a "wait and see" thing.  My 2nd tattoo was actually the first one I had wanted, and I thought about it LITERALLY for years, but my boyfriend at the time didn't want me to have a tattoo, so I didn't get one.  But I wanted it.  And realized that if I wanted this tattoo STILL after 3+ years, then I'd still want it when I was old and crinkly!

What about seeing if you can have a mock-up, in color, done of that tattoo as a temporary tattoo and wear it around for a while and see if you really enjoy it?  That way you can also play with placement, size, etc.  The tattoo mentioned above, that I did get, is actually a littler larger than I am really comfortable with.  I still love it, and wouldn't change it, but if I could do it again, I'd shrink it a little bit.

    It's all the little things.

But, I still think that tattoo is cute as all hell.  :)

Why not make it an anniversary 'gift' to yourself?  Then you'll have an entire year to consider it?  :)  And while you're there, get the cat one too....;)

Why no, I am NOT an enabler, why would you think that?  *g*

i love love it!!! i wanna get one that has to do with FI and I cause i already have two large ones, one that goes up my ribs and one on my lower left back.  i am addicted but FI doesnt want me covered in them, which i also understand.

  • All good things to consider, @shaylagirl. I like the mock-up idea a lot, actually. Then I can even "try out" where I want it. Though I think my foot is a perfect place for that tattoo... Guess I'll talk to my sister too, and see what she says, since it would be a "sisters" tattoo type deal.

And talk to FH, although he has already pretty much said he likes it and thinks it would be good for me.
  • @lplions. That's a cute tattoo! I agree tats are very addicting. I have 3. Just got my last a few months ago. FI doesn't have any.

  • @lplions I'm debating getting my third. It will be on my foot. From what I've heard, feet suck to get tattooed. I guess it depends on pain tolerance.

For what it's worth, my second tattoo is quite large (6inX3in maybe?) and is on my left shoulder blade. 100% visible in my dress :) Mom's very Catholic, conservative family may not approve! Hah!

  • I had always heard base of the skull where your spine comes in is a sucky place, because the buzzing reverberates through your skull.

    Sorry about thread jacking!!
  • Having no ink, I don't know how reliable my information is, but I've heard foot tattoos have to be reinked more often.  True?
