Butterfly or Cinderella?

I apologize if this is not the best board for this but I hope I can still get some opinions.

I have talked to my FI and my dad about this a few times before but they won't help. They are leaving the decision up to me and I can't decide.

I need your opinions on what would be a good Father / Daughter dance or which one you prefer? I also attached links to the videos if you're not familiar with the songs...

I am hoping you can help. I have posted here before and got a lot of good help / advice. I really appreciate it :)

1. Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHcqaDNOqyI
2. Stealing Cinderella by Chuck Wicks  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc7amDEoOd4

Thanks in advance for any opinions!

Re: Butterfly or Cinderella?

  • I did stealing Cinderella, so that is my vote.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of either of those songs. I've heard Butterfly Kisses more than Stealing Cinderella though so if I had to choose between those I would pick Stealing Cinderella.

As for other songs, I could suggest song after song but that wouldn't do much good since I don't really know you. Is there a particular artist both you and your dad really love? If so I would look through their songs.

@bethsmiles  My dad and I like 2 different types of artists / genres so country is a middle ground for us. I don't like too many of the songs that talk about see their daughter at birth because I was adopted at 6 years old.....

Then definitely go with Stealing Cinderella. I've heard Butterfly Kisses way too many times at a wedding.

  • Butterfly Kisses is so used, it ends up (in my opinion) being too cliche. I would go with Stealing Cinderella.

Also, if you have another song that you like that mentions birth, I'm sure your DJ could edit it for you and you wouldn't even know.
  • If you're going with country, I like "I loved her first" the most....
Image result for someecard betting someone half your shit youll love them forever
  • I ditto @ShesSoCold; if your dad is into country, "I Loved Her First," is better than the other two choices.

The other option would be "Fathers and Daughters," by Kristin Chenowith, who is also adopted. My dad and I are doing that song, just because I love KC, and I love the sentiment of the song.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Stealing Cinderella. Butterfly kisses is way overdone.
  • misssunshine17  Thanks for the tip about editing the song.

HisGirlFriday13  My dad is not into country. He is more into classical such as Sinatra, etc. Country was a good middle ground for us. I have never heard of  "Fathers and Daughters" and I don't think I've heard of Kristin Chenowith either. Lol.

winelover123  I had no idea that Butterfly Kisses was overdone. I had always heard of Stealing Cinderella being played / overdone.

I can't stand Butterfly Kisses. It's overdone and I don't know why. I just don't like that song.
I prefer Stealing Cinderella over Butterfly Kisses.

You said your dad is letting you decide, but if you have it narrowed down, maybe he'll have an opinion now?

  • "I Loved Her First" makes me teary eyed.

    Go with that one.  :)

Thank you for attaching that video. That song is so sweet. I am going to have to listen to more of her songs. I love her voice.

My dad might have an opinion now that its narrowed down. I can ask him :)

I really like I loved her first too. I probably would have gone with that but I did my fd dance with both my dad and step dad so it really wouldn't have made sense!

  • Bah just balled my eyes out at both stealing Cinderella and I loved her first. And I hate country lol. Both are good sentiments but I loved her first does touch on that really young age

I assumed you meant Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman at first, which is another popular option.   Of the two you said, I'd go with the other Cinderella.  I just watched it and I'm bawling.
  • I'm doing Butterfly Kisses, just because my dad and I have a history with that song.
But like WonderRed, I absolutely love Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman. If you don't like that, I'd go with I Loved Her First.
  • If you want something more new and upbeat, Trace Adkins has his new song Fishing...it's about making memories with his daughter, while she thinks they're just hanging out. I love it.

There's also "you're gonna miss this", by T Adkins, and also "tough little boys". If you can't tell I love me some Trace Adkins lol...and depending on your parents, "there goes my life" by Kenny Chesney is also very good. My BFF parents got married after dating just 3 months bc she was pregnant. So, she chose that song, and it made her dad cry ;-) everyone loved it :-)
  • I am using "I Loved Her First" I also like "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts.
  • Bah just balled my eyes out at both stealing Cinderella and I loved her first. And I hate country lol. Both are good sentiments but I loved her first does touch on that really young age
Yes both are very good songs. I Loved Her First is a good one and does touch on the really young age. I am a little hesitant to do that song because I am not dancing with my biological father ( I have never met him and plan on keeping it that way). I am dancing with the guy who I call dad when my parents adopted me at 7 years old.

Don't hate me (lol) but I have not heard of Steven Curtis Chapman's version of Cinderella. I will have to listen to it so I know what people are talking about when they mention that one. Lol. Yes the other Cinderella (the one I mentioned) is a tear jerker at times.

Thanks! I will think about the Cinderella one. I am a little hesitant about I Loved Her First ( I explained why in a reply to Gustafson28 )

I never thought of those songs. I will have to listen to them and see what I think. Thanks!

That's mine and my dad's song :) He actually picked it though.

  • Although Butterfly Kisses is a beautiful song, I agree it is a bit overused. I personally love all of the songs pp have mentioned (I love country lol) My best friend, who was adopted by her step-dad, danced to "The Dad he Didn't Have to be" by Brad Paisley. Although it mentions hoping to be half the dad he didn't have to be, I think the rest of the song was perfect. Just another suggestion :)

  • @TT Bride 13 that is a good idea. Thanks!
  • Me and my dad are torn between Butterfly Kisses and  Lullaby (Angels) by Billy Joel. I know Butterfly is a little overdone but it fits me and my dads relationship perfectly. My dad really likes Billy Joel, but I'm unsure if the song is a little sad sounding(the tempo not the lyrics)/slow.
