Suggestions ... what to do with my guests?????

I need some ideas/ advice ..... between the end of our ceremony and our restaurant reservation there is an hour gap .. My fiance and I will be taking pictures in the chapel grounds and also on the strip but how about my guests (about 10 people)? should I plan something for them to do? our dinner reservation is at Maggiano's and we will be in the same area taking pictures..... does anybody have any advice?

Thanks

Re: Suggestions ... what to do with my guests?????

  • We have about a 45 minute gap between the ceremony and DDB and have decided to host drinks and light appetizers for our guests close to our ceremony venue. Perhaps you could do something similar at one of the bars etc near Maggianos ie Strip Burger? It probably wouldnt cost much to get a couple of platters.

Maggianos may also be able to bring your dinner reservation forward and guests can just take their time getting to the table and have a couple of appetizers and a drink while you get your pics done.

We decided to throw the hosted event so that guests arent just watching us get our pictures taken. I also really don't think an hour is that long a gap if you didnt do anything.

  • Where is your ceremony?  Are you offering transportation?  With 10 people you could get a big limo to make a trip up and down the strip and stock it with some drinks.

At TI there is Gilly's and Señor Frogs, they might offer some apps and drinks as well.

Or like Missmo said, see if they can move up the reservation.  I don't think an hour is that long because there will likely be transportation time from your ceremony.

  • If ceremony/reception are close by, a cocktail hour is common. I don't know what your package is with Maggianos, but you might be able to set up a cash bar or consumption bar (where you only pay for the drinks they order) and order a few apps. With a small group like that, they should be able to fit at a bar without too much fuss.

For the sake of your sanity, I have to state that I've been to many non-Vegas weddings that have 3-4 hour delays in between without a plan of attack from the couple. Heck, I was recently in a wedding with a 4 hour delay (wedding at 1, reception at 6) where the bride encouraged her friends to meet her at the bar @ 4:30 so that she could relax & actually talk with them before the reception formality. She made no plans at the bar, just told people to meet there if they wanted, and guests had no problem paying cash for drinks. People figure it out.

Sometimes I feel like because this board is for destination weddings, we tend to over-plan every minute because we don't have confidence that our guests can entertain themselves. I assure you, they can figure something out.
  • I agree @mnupp, at home there's always at least a 2/3 hour gap. Guests usually just get drinks from the bar of the reception venue. There's a small bar in Maggianos your guests could go there, that may be the best option. By the time they walk to another bar and back to Maggianos that could take 20/30 mins.
  • A one hour gap is typically remedied with a cocktail hour.  Where are you getting married?  Do you have a hotel suite there?  If you already have a suite I'd stock it with some beverages and have guests mingle there.  I think the limo idea is really good too, esp if you're transporting them to maggiano's anyways.
  • I am getting married at the Chapel of the Flowers and we booked a dinner at Maggiano's ... the diner is going to be on the main dinning room. After reading all the suggestions, we decided to do a cash or consumption bar. We are checking with Maggiano's those two options. Transportation wont be necessary because all our guests will rent a car and they choose their own hotel. Once again, thank you so much for all the messages ... this board is really helping us to plan our big day ... in a week we will be Mr. & Mrs...
  • If Maggino's doesn't come through for you and the bar, check out El Segundo Sol/Strip burger or RA sushi for a cocktail hour, they both have bars. They are literally right below Maggino's, on the first floor.
