What age for junior bridesmaids?

Generally what age is a junior bridesmaid? Is it dependent on certain things? Or is it just whatever you choose to call them?

My nieces will be 13 and 9, so I'm just trying to get an idea. :)

  • If you want them to be bridesmaids, just call them that. There's no diff between bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid. It's an artificial title.

I am not sure if there is an actual rule. But that definitely sounds right for junior bridesmaid ages. A little too old for flower girl ? yeah.
  • No age. A bridesmaid is a bridesmaid. No "junior" necessary.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • If you want to call them junior BMs (like PPs said, not necessary but nothing against it), I've always heard 14 years old and under.

  • I'd say that above the age of 8 a female attendant graduates from flower girl to "bridesmaid."

I was thinking the same thing. I have three nieces, ages 9, 11, and 13. Not a one would be any too thrilled with being called a "junior" bridesmaid.
  • I think those are the perfect ages for bridesmaids. When I think of junior bridesmaids to me they are just too young to participate in the party aspect.
  • I would definitely have them as BMs. I'm sure they'd love being included that way!

These conversations always make me giggle because when I was 11, told I could pick any role I wanted in my uncle's wedding, I chose the title "junior bridesmaid" for myself. However, I agree with PPs that the junior isn't necessary and could even be hurtful to some.
  • I definitely know I wouldn't want to label the 13-year-old as "junior," and if I labeled the 9-year-old that way she'd probably be offended that she was called "junior" and her sister wasn't.

They'll both be bridesmaids. Thanks everyone. :)

And just so I'm not called out on it, no, I'm not asking them this early. Just getting ideas.

  • So what's the age range for your senior bridesmaids?
