Ceremony and Vow Ideas

Amazing Video Idea!!!!

So in our church they have the big screen and the projector and equipment in back. So I want to liven up the time before the wedding with pictures and music of us but I want to make it more interactive than just that. I want to start by having a video of us welcoming the guest to our wedding. And then, right before the wedding begins I want us to come back on and say a few words. So we have that going and its pretty much a surprise to everyone! Well I have been thinking that maybe I will make a surprise of my own and make a special few second video to my fiancé. So before the doors open up for me to walk down, I want the video to pull up!

What does everyone think????

Re: Amazing Video Idea!!!!

  • Honest opinion? I think this will end up being super awkward.

I think a slideshow with music is fine pre-ceremony, but actually speaking to the audience via video seems odd. Thank your guests in person.

  • I agree with pp.

The slideshow/music sounds nice.  But the video is a little much.  You're just about to come out there and have your ceremony and vows.  Seems like a video before that will kind of steal a little bit away.

H and I did brief video messages to each other, but that's for our wedding video.  It will be something we cherish together privately, not something we make others watch, you know?

  • I think it sounds a little silly. I would not have a video saying something to your FI before you walk down the aisle.  This isn't an episode of Maury, where you jump out from behind the curtain.

If you want to have a slideshow, I guess that's ok. But, I find those a little AWish from time to time. it's one thing to have it rolling somewhere at the reception, but to have it in front of a captive audience just strikes me as "yuck".

The word that comes to mind for me is showboating.  I'm not a fan.

I think it would be awkward and I would be rolling my eyes. I just don't like this kind of stuff.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    I think it's unnecessary.

Your guests are coming to see a live ceremony, not a slideshow or a video.  I'd side-eye it.
  • I'm just here to agree with everyone else.  Doing this at the ceremony seems inappropriate. I'd think you'd want it a little more.. solemn? That might not be a good word choice, but you know what I mean.  It would definitely take away from your big moment.

  • Oh, and just too add - most slideshows I see are usually just rolling 10 minutes or so before the ceremony and are playing normal prelude music.

They're still kind of AW-ish, but at least I can ignore them and talk over them.

I don't like it when people try to make me look at them on a screen. I make rude comments.

  • I know you asked for opinions, but I think it's crazy how everyone is so against this and blatantly rude about it.  We don't know the bride and her man... this could very well be their personality that the guests expect, I know a few couples who I could totally see doing this!  We are doing a slideshow with engagement pictures and music and it's totally something I would do, no guest would expect anything less, and just because someone isn't going to do it, doesn't mean you have to say "yuck" or "showboating".  If I were a guest and there was a fun video, I would think it was great and very memorable.  She sounds excited about it, and if you went to that wedding and thought it was ridiculous and all you could think of was to make fun of it and be rude, then you wouldn't be there.  The people who will be there will be their friends and family, and will appreciate the sentiment and thought that went into the creation of the video.  I say, do what you want, you sound super excited about it :)

There is no "but". She asked for opinions. People gave them. Just because everybody wasn't jumping up and down fawning over the idea doesn't mean they didn't answer the OP's question.

I'm pretty sure you're confusing "opinions" with "validation". You should probably learn how to discern the 2 or you're going to have a very hard time in life both on and off the Internet.

Wait, if I was going to not like it and say it was dumb, I wouldn't be there? Meaning I don't like the people if I'd make fun of the video or think it's stupid?  Nope.  Awesome, lovely people have stupid ideas all the time.

  • Whatever. I've been to tons of friends' weddings and I cringe at a lot of things they choose to do. Doesn't mean I don't still love them.

And this WILL be awkward. I don't need you talking to me on the jumbotron right before you get married.

  • The whole thing reminds me of waiting on line at Disney World "Hi, I'm the bride and welcome to our wedding. Please note that this is a high intensity thrill ride, so if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, you should not ride. Please escort all small children by the hand, and secure all loose articles before take off. I'll check back in with you when we're closer to launch time"

10 minutes later when at the very front of the line

"Hello again, glad to see you're still with us! When you arrive at your seat, please store all loose articles in the storage unit beneath your seat. To fasten your seat belt, make sure you hear a click. Once again, please escort small children by the hand and give them assistance as needed. Please remember to stay seated while the ceremony is in motion, and do not remove your seat belt until the ceremony has come to a complete stop, and of course, no eating, drinking, smoking or flash photography while riding the ceremony. Have a Magical Day!"

    EXACTLY what I thought of.

  • Personally, I think slideshows are awesome! You are there to celebrate two people, so why is it an inconvenience for guests to look at pictures of them? Its a great way to let family members who may not have facebook see the engagement pictures, and I think it is cute seeing the couple as they grew into their relationship, to see where they started from to where they are now. I wouldnt make it too long, but maybe have it playing in the background as people eat dinner, or something, so if they want to they can watch and share in that joy or if they are totally bored they can just eat their food. Ten minutes sounds good to me, maybe a little longer or shorter.
  • Thank you, I actually wanted it to be kinda quirky! But that's kinda who we are!!!!!
