Y'all Will Get a Kick Out of This

So, I got married this past Saturday (hooray!) I am one of those brides who's entire family, community, etc has a dollar dance at every freaking wedding. It has never sat well with me so DH & I opted to leave it out of our evening. I didn't think anyone noticed or cared.

Fast forward to about an hour before the reception ends, everyone is pretty darn drunk... I get bombarded by about 10 people asking about the dollar dance. I said, "Sorry, we aren't doing one." They proceeded to throw dollars at me and DH. Lol. WTF?? That's how adamant people are about this thing in my area. Ridiculous. It was so funny though. I gave all the money back to them, btw. ;)

Lmao.  That is pretty funny.  I scratch my head whenever someone posts on here that they don't want people getting drunk at their weddings - drunk people are fun.  I think you did the right thing, both by taking it in stride and by returning the money.

    :D
I love drunk wedding people! :)
  • I'm glad you A. didn't do the dance and B. handled that so well! :)

How did everything else go? If I remember correctly, you needed a new venue at the very last minute?

Right?  Of course the "I don't want a bunch of drunk people at my wedding" people are invariably arguing in favor of their cash bars, so... grain of salt.

     Why???
I despise drunk people at any event and at any place.  I move away from them in the subway, I switch side walks to get away, I can't stand the heavy smell of alcohol, often mixed with the smell of urine and puke...
What is fun about them? What do you love about them?

"Drunks" vs "wedding drunk" IMO, are two different things. IMM, "drunks" are what you described, whereas "wedding drunk" is getting sloshed and making an amicable fool of yourself (dancing crazily, hitting on Great-Aunt Mildred who's 87 yrs old, that kind of thing).
Yse, this. Exactly. I don't love alcoholics who are drunk 24/7.

And, @shessocold, yes- that was me. Everything just really turned out beautifully. We fell into a pile of you-know-what and came out smelling like roses. The casino that stepped up and offered us a deal made everything absolutely amazing. Like, above and beyond what they told us they were going to do.

All we were charged for was food & drink... everything else (centerpieces, uplighting, table decorations, monogram on the big screen, security guard, etc) was thrown in free. Easily a $20k wedding and we paid a fraction of it. It was like a dream. :)

I wish I knew how to share pics on here to show you how beautiful it was!

This.  No one is saying they like can't-stand-up-just-puked-all-over-themselves drunks at weddings.  FFS.  There is a huge difference between grandma having a few glasses of wine and Frank Gallagher stumbling into the middle of your wedding.

Personally, I don't dance unless I've had a couple of drinks.

  • You handled that very well!! I hate to say it, but in your shoes, I might have kept the money and then felt guilty about it later. So I'm glad you didn't do that.

I like wedding drunk people, although things can get awkward. At my brother's wedding, my new sister-in-law's brother got suuuper drunk and started grinding with just about every woman between the ages of 15 and 30. It's like, "Hey, you're kind of my new brother-in-law, how 'bout we don't hook up?"
