Rings on honeymoon

For those who have gone on their honeymoon did you wear your rings? My husband thinks I should wear a ring less expensive than my ering and enhancer since we plan on doing a ton of outdoor activities. I think I don't have any reason to worry and wearing my rings is fine .. What did you guys do?

I wore them. DH wore his. I even wore it in the ocean! Eeek! :-)

    It's a personal choice.

  • We went to Thailand so I left my e ring at home. When I felt uncomfortable in a location, I switched my band over to the non-diamond side, but for the most part it was fine. I never go in the ocean with my rings, so when we were in Phuket, my ring was in the hotel safe most of the days and I would put it back on for dinner.

  • Thanks ladies!

  • I wore mine the entire time I was on my honeymoon.  I never felt uncomfortable with it on and I even wore it when I went snorkeling.

It is a personal choice but as long as you have insurance on your rings then I don't see a reason not to where them on your honeymoon.  Tell your H that you have just as much chance as losing/damaging your rings or having them stolen at home as you do on your HM.

  • H and I both wore our rings on our honeymoon. It really never occurred to me not to.
  • Yeah. I wore it everywhere in the bahamas. Swimming, snorkeling etc.
  • @katwag, yep it's insured

I guess he's more worried about something happening than I am. I definitely don't have any reservations about wearing them, just gotta convince my husband. Like @maggie0826 said its the same chance of something happening wearing it here as there.

  • I didn't wear mine.  I have a little travel ring.  I had several reasons.  We were travelling to Turkey, Egypt, etc. and I wasn't comfortable having jewellery there that meant so much to me.  A guy did actually grab my hand in line for ice cream to look at my ring, and wasn't impressed with what he saw.  I also had them resized and soldered together, so the trip was a good time to go without them and not miss them.

For me, it's not a money issue as they are insured.  I'm extremely sentimental and would be crushed if they were lost or stolen and replaced with another set.  Even if they were the same set, there wouldn't be the ones I got married with.  I know they can get lost or stolen here or on vacation anywhere, but certain places set of my "be careful" radar more than others

I feel the same way. It's more about not having the ring that my husband gave to me on our wedding day if I were to lose them and get insurance to replace them. I think it really depends on where you are going and what you are doing. Again, we were going to some non touristy areas of Thailand so I didn't want the big flashy ring. At home, when I hike, I keep mine on, but whenever I go to the beach/swimming/snorkeling I don't. I also have terrible circulation so my hands get cold in most water and I worry about the wedding band slipping off my restricted finger. My husband swims and snorkels with his on. I would be sad if he lost his but it's his personal preference. Do what you feel comfortable with.

  • If your ring is sized correctly you don't have any reason to worry. I wear my ering everywhere and anywhere except boxing and weightlifting (which could damage the ring) and I've never had it come off, damaged, or a diamond knocked loose.

  • No honeymoon yet here, but on our last vacation to the beach I brought the ring but left it in the hotel safe while we were actually at the beach/in the ocean. The rationale being that if it slips off in the ocean you'll NEVER find it.

The side stones of my ring were part of FI's great grandmother's ring, so that may make me more cautious though.

Just a PSA: Gold should not be taken into chlorinated water. It chemically weakens the metal (chlorine bleach will do the same, so don't clean with rings on either) which leads to prongs breaking and bands cracking.

More on topic, I wore my rings everywhere but in the pool and horseback riding (just wore my band for the latter), but we are very much not outdoorsy and if I were doing anything more outdoorsy than riding I would most likely leave my rings at home. Some people act like their jewelry is indestructible but gold is a soft metal. Platinum or tungsten wouldn't be a problem, but it seems to be a relatively small percentage of people that have those.

  • We both wore them most of the time. We're really active and didn't wear them while rock climbing (pretty much the only time I don't wear mine at home either), but kept them on the rest of the time. We were in maritime Canada though, so not much worry about them being stolen. For the future, I think we'll get plain bands to wear during travel, but for our honeymoon we were both pretty excited about wearing them.

    Life is good today.
  • I'm leaving my e-ring at home with my parents but am planning on wearing my band.
  • I bought a sterling/diamond band on Overstock.com to wear on my honeymoon.  I'd prefer to lose a $80 ring in Mexico than my (to me) priceless estate engagement ring which could likely never be replaced with the exact design.  Or the sentimental value.

  • To me, the entire point of rings is to actually wear them.  So unless you are doing activities that might damage your ring, or would make it uncomfortable to wear (I typically don't wear my rings while I'm at the gym since my fingers tend to swell a little during heavy exercise) , then I don't know why you wouldn't wear them.

I've essentially worn my rings 24/7 since I got married, including travelling to Mexico, Honduras, and Europe.  This includes during all activities from snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins, mountain biking, hiking, ziplining, etc.

Then again, while I hold obvious sentimentality for my rings, I'd rather risk losing them while travelling, but knowing that I'm proudly wearing them everyday, then to buy and wear a cheap ring just to keep my other set safe and never getting the joy of actually wearing them.  But to each his own I guess, if you aren't comfortable with it, then do what you gotta do.
  • I wore both of my rings on my HM (South Africa) and on every other trip I've been on since receiving them.
