VENUE HELP

I just got engaged and we are finally starting to look at venues to see how much it would be. My first call it got prices for 4 different places, at first I was like ok not so bad all prices ranging from like 115- 195 then when I started to do the math... it will run us over 15000! is this possible?! does anyone know where to go for more wallet friendly places???

we would like for it to be outside- just to give an idea if anyone is familiar with Snug Harbor on Staten Island- the Tuscan Garden something maybe like that.

I read these articles on how people spend like 8,000 and our biggest concern is venue.  We have everything else lined up and at good prices and a lot of the stuff we will be DIY not just to save money but it will be personalized. haha! please if anyone has any ideas please share!!

Thank you!!! :)

I am getting married at Snug Harbor this October - I did a lot of research - looked at venues in Long Island, North Jersey, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens. Unfortunately, we are in one of the most expensive areas for weddings. I could not find anything less than $120 a plate. Snug Harbor is about $150 p/p for a Saturday event. We fell in love with the Tuscan Garden and Great Hall. I would be wary though because their staff and communication has not been ideal.

To keep costs down, I would:
    1. Shorten the guest list
    2. Look into Friday weddings or on a holiday.

let me know if you have any specific questions. Like I said, I researched A LOT of places!

  • You are doing the ceremony there as well? 150 is including taxes and all the other charges as well? if not what is the total? How many people are you having? We are just starting our search as well @lambs379
  • The average American wedding is $20-25,000.  This is the new average because you have to pay for wait staff and upkeep of property.  You could do a Thursday or "brunch" wedding - usually 35-40% off.  You could also do a buffet with a bar and a limited waitstaff.  Look into 4 hour wedding cruises - they can often be cheaper and you can have an early in the day event and just serve wine, beer and champagne.
  • @Vl829 -

We are getting married in a church, so I know the ceremony would cost a little more to have it on-site. $150 per person is including taxes, as well as an "administrative charge." This does not include gratuity for the matre' d. We are having about 185 guests - we had a difficult time cutting the guest list - it's easier said than done.

Like I said, we looked at A LOT of places and this was reasonably priced considering how gorgeous it is. Most places in the tri-state area were over $200 per person for a Saturday night.

If you have any other questions, let me know!

@ Esther Morales - I WISH the average cost of a wedding in NY/NJ/LI was $25,000!!!!!
  • When you do banquet halls, you have to consider a higher price.  If you would consider queens, look at The Douglaston, the world astoria manor and the Renaissance in LIC.
