Vow Renewal reception for 30-50 people

Hi Everyone!

I am brand new around here :)

My husband and I are planning a vow renewal in Vegas (we're from Boston) in 2016 (I know its waaaay off)  We are looking to host a cocktail style fun party for our close friends and family on the strip.  We are expecting 30-50 people, and are open to any ideas.  I prefer a cocktail style reception rather than a sit down dinner.  Ultimately I want to serve heavy apps in a casual environment (with great decor!) and then bring in some entertainment so we can all party.  my preference is a band, but at DJ would be ok too.

I'd love any venue suggestions for this style reception!  Thanks!!

  • There are not a lot of options for your own live band short of renting out a ball room or similar private venue, and of course finding a band on top of that.  My wife and I initially intended on going the band route and ultimately went with DJ because there were only a few bands I could find and we just couldn't work out the logistics of seeing them all in person across one or two scouting trips to ensure that's who we really wanted.

Assuming DJ, check out Mix Lounge at Mandalay.  You could do vow renewal at 64 stories up overlooking the strip on any night of the week from perhaps 4 to 5, have heavy apps served, cocktail hour, and then it opens up to the public at 5pm, DJ starts, you've got a private area, dance floor, etc.

An in-suite is of course an option but that's kind of a love/hate option so let me know how you feel about that and then I can throw out some more ideas.

or if you have a specific type of place, view, location, feel, etc. let me know that too.

  • Thanks for the quick reply!  I figured a band probably wouldn't work well, and we certainly don't want a large ballroom.

We are actually attending a wedding at Mix in October!  So I am pretty excited to see how that unfolds.

I'd love any other suggestions whether it be a restaurant with semi private space and ability to have entertainment, or renting a small reception space in a hotel.  As for strip hotels we love a more modern look.  I am a big fan of the Cosmopolitan, Aria or even Mirage.
  • Congrats on a landmark anniversary! Some other places you might consider include clubs, as it would successfully weave in the casual cocktail feel and hold that many people comfortably. I can recommend a few places, but no guarantees they will be open in 2016 - such is Vegas. :)

    Offbeat Spots include
    The Act at Palazzo
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (they have a Vegas-ified mini ballroom!)
    Hard Rock Cafe patio
Many of the lounges at the hotels. There will be a few new contenders on the scene by then including Gansevoort, Delano (replacing THEhotel at Mandalay Bay) and SLS so your choices are likely to expand the longer you can wait.

Off the Strip you might consider
Mob Museum (fantastic, historical space at good rates)
MEET Las Vegas (outdoor patio area)
One of the smaller spaces at Smith Center

These last three are more likely to be able to hold bands. Good luck! Curious to know what you decide upon!
