this is for those of you who have kitchens.

do you have cabinets that do not go all the way to the ceiling? do you put anything on top of the cabinets, or do you just leave them?

i am tres annoyed that i don't have cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling. i really wish they had just hung them that way irregardless. i just really don't want to do this, like some kind of marijuana farmer:

ours go all of the way to the ceiling. if they didn't, i would not have fake plants sitting on top of them.

also, wtf at the place settings on the "bar"? there's no sort of overhang there, so your legs would be right against the cabinets, and you'd be leaning way over if you wanted to eat there.

We have a soffit instead. Irregurdless, I would not put anything up there. And certainly not fake ivy. Ever.

Eww, I just noticed they have a drop ceiling in that kitchen. That kitchen is full of fail.

We have a super tiny kitchen and space between the cabinets and ceiling. We use that space for our kitchen machinery (food processor, kitchen aid, ice cream maker, deep fryer....)

We also have a soffit. But I wouldn't put anything up there either. I've seen nice Tuscan type things done, but all I can think of is the dusting job.

I hate my soffit and think all should go to the ceiling. Such a waste of space.

I also hate ivy on the top. I'd find SOMETHING to store up there though. Something decorative.

Another soffit. I'd put a few decorative things, but no ivy- a large platter, old cookbooks, pitcher?

okay, i think i will just live. i have nothing up there. the previous owners put up actual ivy in pots.

If you need storage space, there are lots of baskets with lids you could put on top. My daughter does that to store seasonal things, or items they only use once in a great while.

I have also seen narrow bookcases and ladders used to make some additional shelving.

Ours don't. I have had real plants up there, because it keeps the cat from messing with them. When we do the big remodel, they will go to the ceiling.

Our cabinets do not go to the ceiling (thank GOD because DH likes to put everything up on the highest shelves anyway and there's no way I could reach anything even standing on the counter.)

We do not have anything up there - our kitchen is busy enough with the fruity wallpaper we have. The previous tenants left their dusty dirty ivy up there and that's the first thing I got rid of when we got the keys. Ick.

@tawillers I love it! And OP, I don't think there's anything wrong with cabinets that don't go to the ceiling. I actually really like the kitchen in the picture. However, I would not put greenery on top of them.

iwould always wonder what kind of grease and grime ie being stored up on top of the cabinets. i don't think i would have time time to clean that area very often (or i am just too lazy).

we have some small kitchen appliances on a shelf in the kitchen, but i have them covered in ugly plastic bags because they get dingy very quickly. i have tt get nice green country kitchen appliance covers with apples on them, right? i think roosters are in.

I also have a soffit. But in my happenin' single lady apartment I used that space to display my collection of 80s pop culture TV trays.

There were lots more trays, but despite a Knoxville Worlds Fair one that I got rid of, these were truly the only 80s. But pretty awesome, yes?

We have a soffit on one side and nothing on the other. We too had some lovely ivy on top of our cabinets when we moved in. I don't like the look of nicknacks on the top of cabinets. I'd like to extend the cabinets all the way to the ceiling, which is an option if you have the room. We have 11 or 12 inches from the top of the cabinets to the ceiling, these bad boys are exactly 12 inches tall. We'd probably have to do a little shaving to make it work:
