has anyone made their charger plates?

if so what size plates did you use.

i'm wanting to make mine instead of spending 5 bucks a plate for them :D
i'm a penny pincher bride, i don't want to spend money where i don't have to :P

so if you can give me the size of the plates you used it would be awesome :D

Re: has anyone made their charger plates?

  • Why not just skip chargers completely?  To me they are a complete waste of space and money and really add nothing to your table layout in the grand scheme of things.

  • idk i think is cheaper then purchasing overlays for the table is just a pop of color to the venue i have in mind is all ivory and dark wood

  • Once a plate is placed on top of the charger you basically lose the whole "pop of color" you are looking for.  Also, the one wedding where they did have chargers the servers took them away once the salad course was complete.  So again, there would go your pop of color.

I am not sure what your centerpieces will be but why not have the pop of color in those or rent/buy colored napkins?

Also, again, unsure of your budget, but I would talk with your DJ and see if they offer a lighting package.  Lighting would have more of an overall impact then chargers.

  • i'm buying every budget plates and all :D the plates i'm getting are dollar each so i'd have to look and see if i want if not i can use them as my dinning table decorations. I've always liked the look but if its true about them taking it away i might not do it. thanks for the notion :D

  • Another vote for no charger plates. Add your pops of color with flowers, centerpiece elements, overlays, napkins, placecards - stuff you're going to do anyway.

In my crazy mind, when I see an empty plate all I can think about is how hungry I am (or should be) and it makes me antsy for food. Out of sight, out of mind. Plus you won't spend the money.

I have a question..how do you make chargers?  I like the look of them as well on the table, but have never heard of someone making them??  Are you just using large plates?

  • yeah i was going to use larger plastic plates you can get at the dollar store and metallic spray paint with clear coat

  • They are suppose to be larger than a plate so that you can see them once the plate is placed.  It basically a plate shaped place mat.  I have no idea how you could make them.  I bought 150 of them from another Knottie for $100.

  • Use 13" plates if you plan on DIYing them. I agree, $5 per plate is crazy. You might want to look into buying them used off another bride using the classifieds here or over at weddingbee, or even Craigslist. Dollar Tree has them for $1, I'm told, but I've only seen that in assorted packages of red, green, and gold.

  • Can you rent? I am renting them from my linen supplier for 25 cents a charger.
  • renting is what i wanted to do and thats 5 bucks a plate is renting its over priced for making it yourself thats why i wanted to know if anyone has tried it before

I was at a wedding that had charger plates- they were not removed until after dinner was finished.

But I agree- if you want to save money, leave out the plates and get colour elsewhere.
  • I FOUND SOMEONE ON HERE WHO HAS 40 PURPLE PLATES BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE THE COBALT BLUE I WANT SO I MAY END UP JUST PAINTING THEM MYSELF IDK
    SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS
