Ceremony Site/Reception Venue for 70 Person Wedding

Hello ladies,

We are trying to plan a wedding in Oakland County for 70 people.  So far, we've tried restaurants, hotels, and reception halls and have been striking out either because our party size is too small or too big.  We have the added problem of not wanting to get married in a church, so need to find a ceremony site nearby.  Did anyone here have a similar issue and find somewhere to go?  We've budgeted about $6,000 for the reception.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

  • Is an Oakland county venue a must?

If you click on the link below for my bio, you can see the venue we used. There are links on that page for vendors & photos.

This is a link to the page for the venue: http://www.ci.livonia.mi.us/tabid/189/Departments/Community%20Resources/Greenmead/NewburgIntersection.aspx

We were married in August 2011 at Greenmead Village which is at the intersection of 8 Mile Rd & Newburgh in Livonia. It is a city of Livonia park with historic buildings, fabulous gardens, similar to Greenfield Village but on a much smaller scale. They have an adorable historic chapel that is non-denominational, and a lovely home that has been renovated into a banquet facility. They provide tables, chairs and a dance floor, you bring in everything else, including food, utensils, and alcohol. Both buildings have a max capacity of 100. We had 73 people, and with everything including the officiant, DJ, decor I made, it was under your budget.

  • If Oakland county is a must check out:
Addison Oaks - Leonard north oakland
Van Hoosen Farm - rochester hills
    Rochester Mills
Picanos - Troy (having my shower there today for 75 people)
    Red Ox - auburn Hills
    La Sala - rochester hills

Can you tell what part of Oakland county I'm from lol!

I know there are others...just having a brain blank...
Also for such a small group you might want to look at Fridays or Sundays...room minimums are usually less and they are more accommodating
  • Thanks! We tried Addison Oaks and Van Hooseb Farms already but aren't a large enough group. We will check out the others!
  • Really because the lady at van hoosen kept trying to sell us on the "intimacy" of the house and new barn. Also thought they were a flat fee for the ceremony then hourly for reception time. You do have to bring in your own cater but many if those are willing to accommodate. Also ask van hoosen about using the museum area because my FI mentioned he wished we only had 50 people and she offered up that space to accommodate us (but we're currently at 150 now so...lol)
  • river crest in rochester hills is perfect size for it plus they have a beautiful ceremony site on location there...
