Room Blocks

Wanting to be the best hostess that I can be, I will be blocking rooms for my guests that will be coming in from OOT. But I am curious to find out, how this works?

How did you do this? I know that at some point I will have to give the hotel my CC #, but I don't want to be stuck with unused rooms and have to pay for them.

I guess I need someone that has done this to talk me through it. How many rooms did you reserve?

You can just call and talk to someone on the phone and they'll just block off rooms. You don't have to give your cc number unless you're booking a room for yourself.

What I did was set up a meeting with the "special events" coordinator at the hotel I wanted to stay at. She gave me a tour and we sat down and filled out a form together. I was getting ready at that same hotel, so I wanted to make sure the rooms were big enough. Most people don't get that involved, though.

You actually should NOT have to give your credit card number to the hotel. Typically they just hold the block of rooms until about 30 days before the wedding. Any not booked by then get released to the general public. If you talk to a hotel who want to hold you responsible and want your cc info, just say no.

It all depends on the contract you sign with your hotel. Some places will give you a drop dead date and if the rooms aren't booked they'll release them back into their general inventory. Some places will require you to be responsible for any and all unbooked rooms. Talk to a few different places and see what they say. I say start with 10 rooms (which is what most places require to get a discounted rate) and see if you can add more later if you need them.

I actually just went through this.

I went to Hotelplanner.com, and was able to say where I wanted a hotel, how many rooms I thought I needed, and what price I wanted to pay. You wait a little while, and you get bids from area hotels.

I weeded out the hotels that wanted a guaranteed number of rooms booked, weren't close enough to my venue, were too much money, or seemed sketchy. That narrowed it down to 4, which I then went to tour and ask additional questions. After that I picked my one and signed the contract.

I used hotelplanner.com to find hotels that might offer me a good deal (I got rid of ones that charged me for not having enough guests or wanted money up front). It was pretty easy.

My 3 year old gave me this name when she was 2...people would ask her what her mommy's name is. Her response? "Noelle's Mama"
