Rewind...Let me introduce myself

So let me rewind and introduce myself. My name is Vanessa and my fiance is LaSella. We have been together 8 years (college sweethearts) and he proposed on July 4, 2013. We currently reside in Atlanta, but will be getting married in RI where I'm from. We are looking at Aug 2015 wedding as we both finish school in 2014. I'm looking forward to reading through the posts and sharing with you all.

How did he propose? My family was planning a surprise party for my mom on July 6th and so I had wanted to get to RI by that Wed the 3rd. He insisted that we go to Philly first and drive to RI. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma and his undergraduate chapter was "having a 4th of July event". I was NOT happy about this decision as he knew how much I needed to do in RI before the party, but like a good girlfriend and being a member of Zeta Phi Beta it was hard to not let him have his way. So we flew into Philly on the 3rd (that was an experience in itself...just know everything that could go wrong did) and we didn't get in until like 2am. We were both exhausted, but for "some reason" he couldn't sleep. Anyways, on the 4th we got ready to head to campus for this "event". I was being a pistol that morning and I was more concerned about getting to RI (which mind you we hadn't rented a car yet) than the event that I had no details about (so out of his character). Anyways, his college friend Leo "so happen" to be in town for the Roots concert and he drove us to campus. As we were walking towards the building that said event was going to take place he stopped me and he began to reminisce about our college days on campus, falling in love and how much we have grown. I, not realizing what was happening, at first was resistant as I wanted to get to the "event" that we were running late for, but he eventually calm me down and said to me "Can we just enjoy the moment". But even as he got down on one knee before he could say anything else I asked "What are you doing?" It didn't really hit me until he got back up to get the ring out of his pocket then get back down again to ask if I will marry him...to make the moment even better he surprised me with having my family and friends hiding in the bushes, so needless to say we didn't need that rental car to RI.
