splurge on suite or keep it cheap

We are getting married at the b3lliagio in July with a lunch reception at the café. I was planning on inviting anyone who wanted to come back up to our suite for cheap I.e. free drinks. I planed on checking into suite day before and staying 5 nights. I fell in love with the thought of the cypress suite but its very. Costly. The question is should I splurge on the cypress or get a small suite and maybe not invite people back . Or just get cypress for 2 nights and change rooms. I so need advice on this one

Re: splurge on suite or keep it cheap

  • I guess it all comes down to your budget. If the cypress suite is within the budget for 5 nights then go for it! Alternatively you can split up your stay with a cheaper room. As you are having a lunch reception I think a mini in suite 'after party' sounds like a grear idea.

  • Well the suite is pushing the budget boundaries hence why I would like peoples opinions the most economical would be to go with a salon suite but 35 people 895 Sq ft need I say more lol
  • Ooohh yeh wayyy too tight! I think getting the suite for a couple of days is the best option then :-)

  • I agree with Mo, just get it for a couple of days, that's what I am doing with my suite in the Mirage. We're checking in the day before the wedding and will check out the day after. We're going to just move into a smaller room at the Mirage for the following couple of days. I'm hoping we'll be able to move from one room to the other without having the usual wait between check out and check in times as we want to go out and take more photos that day! If not, we'll leave our luggage in my mom's room during those times as she won't be checking out for another 2 days.

  • We did the room switch thing.  Just keep in mind that sometimes the check out time can be a lot earlier than the check in time and if they're at capacity you may have to deal with basically packing up, checking your bags and then unpacking again when you can check in.  That can be annoying to have to do during your honeymoon.

@JiimanieWhich suite are you getting at the Mirage?
  • We are splurging for a suite for 5 nights at the Mirage.  It is a little on the expensive side to do it, but we really didn't want to deal with the hassle of switching rooms after our wedding.  I want to be able to unpack and relax the entire time.  We even got an extra night so we don't have to check out the morning after our wedding.

I think you just have to figure out what is most important to you guys.  Is the hassle of switching rooms worth it to have everyone up for drinks for a couple hours or is getting a smaller suite for the entire trip for you and your FI to enjoy more important.

Also, do you think everyone will come up after?  That's another thing to consider.  I figure some of our guests will drop off after our reception due to the open bar!

  • @ktbabe530 we've booked the 2-bed tower suite, and I agree, its all about deciding what is more important for your wedding day.

For us, we really need the space of the suite to have guests back after the reception as we only have a 2 hour slot at a buffet's semi-private room, and we want somewhere to have some drinks and party a little afterwards. Plus, our whole honeymoon is going to involve living out of a suitcase, never staying anywhere for more than 2 nights so we won't have unpacked much anyway. The main pain of having to move the day after the wedding is that we want to be out and about doing things after check-out (hangover permitting), which is why I'm glad we can leave our stuff in my mom's room and check-in on our return.

In an ideal world they'd let us stay in the 2nd bedroom of our suite (that has its own entrance from the hallway) and we wouldn't have to check out completely, but I'm guessing that's unlikely.

In an even more ideal world, they'd upgrade us to the suite for the extra 2 nights as its our wedding, but I'm guessing that's even less likely.....!

  • We booked the corner suite for our wedding week. We also booked it because it worked out to be 30% off and  bundled with flights it was $80/pp more than a regular room, because the reg rooms weren't on sale. We paid $1229/pp with flight, room and taxes, Had it been regular priced and not bundled - room alone was $2200 for our week there - We wouldn't have booked it.

Maybe book your room and call if you see a sale and see if they will upgrade you for the same price?
