Walking down the aisle by myself.

I'm in my late 30's having my 2nd wedding, fiance's 1st. We are having a wedding with about 70 guests & not having bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls etc..  I feel silly having my dad walk me down the aisle after I've lived & been on my own for so long.  He walked me down the aisle the first time.  I'd rather walk alone but I don't know if it to raise eyebrows as to why he didn't.  We get along fine I just feel past needing daddy to walk me down.  Thoughts??

Re: Walking down the aisle by myself.

  • Walk alone if you want to walk alone. It'd be pretty judgypants for someone to raise an eyebrow at this. It's a personal choice so do what you want. :)

As long as you can physically get down the aisle on your own, you do not need an escort.

  • Talk to you dad about it, I'm sure he's going to be fine with it, too.

Do whatever makes you happy. Strut down that aisle.

I think it's totally fine what you're doing.  Best wishes!
  • If you want to walk down the aisle yourself, you walk down the aisle yourself.  Anyone who would "raise eyebrows" at this is probably the type of person who would raise eyebrows at everything.  This is one of those decisions that "it's your day, do it how you want to" actually applies to.
Don't worry guys, I have the Wedding Police AND the Whambulance on speed dial!

  • I think totally fine. I much prefer this actually... you will look like a beautiful woman walking to meet her man and love, not a young girl being walked to the altar!

    It is your wedding!

  • I'm walking down the aisle with myself as well - same as you, me in my 40's & 2nd wedding and his 1st. I'll just have my father escort my mother down the aisle like I did in the first wedding.  It was fine the first time and I was in my early 20's and never heard a peep about it. Seriously, this is no biggie, plus more room for my dress. I didn't spend thousands on my dress this time, but I am investing money and time to look awesome as I walk down the aisle for my Fiance, so why should I block his view? If anyone is offended, well, they can just do it how they see fit at their own weddings now, can't they?
  • I'm debating walking myself. If I did, I think I'd start down the aisle alone and then have FI meet me partway.  I want that first moment look down the aisle, but also like the idea of finishing the walk with him....almost like starting my life on my own (i'll ignore the "detour" with the ExH) and then "walking" the rest of my journey with him

  • I'm early 40's and this is my second wedding as well.  My father will not be walking down the aisle.  If not for my 6 year old son, I would be walking down the aisle alone too, but DS will be walking with me.  To each their on on this issue.
  • I'm also walking down the aisle alone.  This will be my 2nd and FI's 1st.  I made the stupid mistake of getting married young, but I really don't think age matters in this case.  If you feel confident and comfortable in your decision to walk alone, then by all means, do it!
