Figuring out wedding invitation wording

So my FI and I were discussing the wording for the invites, and the etiquette says, since we're being married in a church, we need to put "the honor of your presecence" but my FI doesn't like that.

I'm thinking more along the lines of "The pleasure of your company is requested as we celebrate our union...."

We are both older, it's not his first marriage, and we are paying for everything.

Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks! :)

I have the exact same situation, aside from being married in the church. Here's our wording:

We,
Jane Smith
and
John Doe
invite you to celebrate with us
as we joing together in marriage
on Saturday, the twenty-first of May
Two Thousand and Eleven
at Six O'Clock in the Evening

Insert name of church and address

Reception Immediately to Follow
Insert name and address

Insert wedding web page

I think that's fine, for comparison (we aren't getting married in a church, and our parents are paying for part of the wedding), our invites had this wording:

Together with their parents
mgoss228 middle last
and
FI middle last
Request the pleasure of your company at their wedding
May 7
two thousand eleven
at half past five o'clock in the evening (not the actual time, because of potential creepy lurkers, but you get the idea)

Ours was similar:

Together with their families
Panda
&
Mac
Request the pleasure of your company
As they exchange marriage vows
Saturday, the nineteenth of March
Two thousand eleven
(Time)

(Place)

etc. Really any way you want to write it will work just fine. Most people have no clue about what etiquette says. ;-)

Something I just learned ... it should be half after five, not half past ... past is for funerals? Not that it really matters, just something to throw out there. :)

Interesting, I semi-copied my invite wording from one of the girls who is a regular on the Etiquette message board.... she's hella snarky (but with BEAUTIFUL invites), so that brings a smile to my face that she was "wrong."

My actual ceremony time is at an "even" time (no 5:15, 5:30, etc), so I'm glad I wasn't etiquette-incorrect, lol.

I love that. I think that the girls on alot of international boards are hella snarky and most of them contradict eachother on "etiquette".

For what it's worth, we went with half past, too ... half after just sounded weird to us. And I don't think ANYONE would judge us for using it. :)
