Bought Wedding Dress Too Big

So I wound up falling in love with the Maggie Sottero Monterey dress when I tried it on at the salon (link below). Unfortunately, this dress was a finale and a size 16--I'm currently on the low end of a size 12 in this designer's measurements and planning on losing more weight. The consultant kept assuring me that the alterations could be made, but I never met with an actual seamstress. Unfortunately, caught up in the moment, I bought it. Does anyone know if it's possible to take this down 3 to 4 sizes? It's got large seams on the sides and a corset back....but I'm afraid the neck line will still be too high even with alterations. I realize the alterations will be pricey (anticipate paying about equivalent to what I paid for the dress--but I just want to make sure it's doable and will look good. Definitely having my first bridal freak out moment (and everything else has gone so smoothly)!

You're going to have to take it to a seamstress to ask. As someone who sews though, I'm thinking it might not be possible. There's a hell of a lot of construction details on that dress, and while a corset back can give several inches of leeway, 4 sizes is a very large difference and it will likely mean taking apart and rebuilding the entire dress.

From what I was told, 4 sizes is very possible. When you go beyond that, it gets to be very difficult to keep the integrity of the dress. I am hoping this is true because I am about 3 sizes down from the size I ordered my dress.

Thanks, all! I wasn't thrilled with the alterations info I received (or the estimates) from the seamstress--it can be done...but not cost effectively. I wound up buying the exact same dress $300 cheaper in my size at another local salon--for the price of alterations to the other--the good news is that I'm still within the $1,500 budget I set initially...even with two dresses. So wish I had just gone to the bridal salon I bought my actual dress at first. Anyway, now it's on to sales for the size 16 one...and a not-so-nice review for the first store that misinformed me.
