Hotel Delux Suites Reception

We are getting married in Feb-2014.  This is both our 2nd wedding, mid-40's, so we want something simple, yet elegant.  Has anyone ever rented a penthouse Suite or delux suite in a hotel (non "official reception hall") and hosted a cocktail party there?  The few we have looked at are anywhere from 2,000sq ft to 3,600sq ft. We are having approx 60 guests, so I am not too worried about the space.  What I am curious about is, is this allowed by hotels?  We would not be using their food or beverage, but rather provide it ourselves.  There would only be the 2 of us actually spending the night, but we just wanted to host a 3hr cocktail reception after our ceremony, but not with the traditional dancing/garter toss/video, etc.  Simple yet elegant. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

  • I recommend your local board as this is an international board. We have no idea where you are located or what hotels you have. I would seriously just call some hotels. I know the hotels here in Seattle have a couple "party" rooms with balconies they can rent out.
  • I agree with PP. Your best bet is to call around.
  • I've hosted business functions in hotel room suites. It's very common. You do your own thing, as far as food and drink.
  • My concern would the be liability issues. You said you were in your 40s so it doesn't like it will be a frat party, but still.

  • I haven't seen this done, but it sounds like a great idea. I agree- call and ask around. I've been to events hosted in hotel rooms before, so I know that it can be done.
