Dress Steaming

Hello Ladies & VG,

My wedding coordinator sent me a list of places I could get my dress steamed when I get to Vegas but I can't help but think that it's quite pricey. Has anyone travelled with an organza dress? I'm just wondering how well it will travel and if I can get away with steaming it myself with a handheld steamer. My dress also has ruffles at the bottom.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks :)

Re: Dress Steaming

  • You may want to contact the concierge at the hotel you're staying at and see what they'd charge.  Most people use Debi but I understand she's priced a lot higher; I think most who use her just like the security of having one person handle it from pickup to drop off rather than wondering what the hotel did with it.

  • I am using Debi but I understand where you are coming from.  It seems like a lot of money on top of all the other things that you are spending with the wedding.  In the end, to me it is worth it to have Debi take care of it.  Maybe ask the bridal store you bought it from for their recommendation?
  • I am using Jennaleigh Bridal http://www.jlbridal.com/

I was going to use Fit for a bride but Jennaleigh seemed a little closer to our hotel and I really wanted to be able to drop the dress off and pick it up.  They can do it in the same day and I think from memory $45 is the price that was quoted.

Another bride recommended them on here, that's how I came across Jennaleigh :-)

  • Thanks everyone! I go pick up my dress next Friday so I'll ask the seamstress what she suggests. I'm definitely going to check out Jenna Leigh Bridal as well as call the concierge at Paris to see what they recommend. I have heard a lot of good things about Debi as well so I won't count her out just yet :)
  • I am using debi and honestly 140 for pick up and delivery and the steaming seems reasonable! I love the fact that I don't have to bring it to her or pick it up! I can relax and enjoy Vegas!!!!

  • We used Debi this last week for my wedding dress, a second dress and hubby's suit. $190 total for steaming and their picking up and dropping it off. With all of the other things I had to worry about and errands I had to run, I consider the $190 well worth it for the piece of mind.

  • Aria recommended Creative bridal - http://www.creativebridalwear.com/dress-pressing/ They seem to be a little less than Debi.

  • Just an update...I picked up my dress on friday and the seamstress said I won't need to get it steamed. Apparently the material travels well.
  • kiraregnier : thx for the update. Your dress sounds similar to mine and I was skeptical about spending the extra $$ on steaming as well! Thanks again. Happy wedding!!!
  • My dress is organza with ruffles as well -Mori Lee 1606- I had it shipped to me in AZ from NJ where it was ordered; it arrived in a tiny, flat box with minimal wrinkles. My seamstress agreed I wouldn't need it pressed again, but I did buy a portable handheld steamer that uses regular water to bring with us (we're driving). I'll still probably go over the train, and bottom when I take it out of the bag because I'm a nutcase. Lol :)
