Well now we have to

So FI and I were going to skip the garter toss b/c it makes us kind of uncomfortable. Yesterday my Dad stops by with the garter my SM bought for me. I guess she got one for my SIL and wanted to get mine as well.  She did a surprisingly good job picking it out, and its actually something I would have picked, if I wanted to in the first place.

So now we kind of have to do it so she's not offended. But I plan to wear it pretty much around my calf so it doesn't get grotesque up in there.

Re: Well now we have to

  • I'm wearing a garter but definitely not going to do the toss. The garter toss and bouquet toss both gross me out. You could still wear it, tell her you're wearing it but that you're not comfortable doing the toss.  It's for FI to see!
  • Just because you wear it doesn't mean you have to toss it! Just make sure she knows you actually wore it and just let her know you're uncomfortable showing all that leg for the toss!

  • I agree with Julzy. Unless she specifically said it was for a toss, which would be really weird, IMO, I would just wear it as part of your wedding outfit and still not do the toss.

  • That's a good idea ladies, I never thought of that!

I'm undecided about this. I'm either going to do the toss or give it to the BM's FI as they're the next to get married.

  • I agree that if you really don't like the idea of the garter toss, then you can just wear it the day of....but ask your FI if he feels strongly about having it.  Especially if you end up doing a bouqet toss, he may want a similar opportunity.  FWIW, I've never been to a wedding that got all raunchy with the garter toss.  Most brides put it pretty far down on their legs, because after all, their dads and all of their families are sitting right there watching.  So I don't think it's a big deal to have it.

  • Then you didn't go to my brothers wedding. It was disgusting. His wife got really hot so she took the crinonline out of her dress and then basically tucked the botton into her underwear or soemthing so it made the dress about knee length (yet another reason not to get married in July). Then she put the garter up pretty much at her crotch so it looked like my brother was going down on her while he took it off. I had to turn away I was so grossed out.

lol, that sounds terrible!  I still stand that it can be done tastefully....pretty much the opposite of what your SIL did!  haha  But if that tramatized you, I can see how you wouldn't want to do the toss!

  • I begged FI to not do a garter toss. He is obsessed with my legs and I knew things would get grotesque :

  • We aren't doing one... I am wearing one... (on my calf) the photographer has a new photo he wants to do LOL

  • If I were given a garter, I would have to politely decline the toss. We aren't toss a bouquet either.  Nor are we smearing cake on one another's faces. We are such a boring couple, lol. Achi - I think if you wear it on your wedding day, that's good enough, if you are uncomfortable with the toss.

This is exactly how I feel and what we're doing. Plus my dress is a mermaid.

THIS. we feel the same way, FI wants to do the garter toss but I don't think I'll actually have it on my leg. He might take it out of his pocket or something but I do NOT want to throw my flowers, I'm keeping them! I also hate the cake smearing, I'm a messy eater to begin with (plus I hate having people watch me eat) so I don't want to have a bigger risk of icing on my dress!

  • We weren't planning on doing one, but everyone kept bugging us so much about it so we came up with a compromise. I'm wearing a garter, but my FI will have a smaller toss garter in his pocket. Still get the toss in without the totally awkward and in my opinion inappropriate going up the dress bit. So there's always that to think about, if you (or opinionated others) want the toss, just have you FI keep the garter (or a substitute) in his pocket.
