Reception after destination wedding.

I live in MI but we are having our ceremony in PA. We are going to have a reception here in MI also but not sure when is the right time frame to do it. Do we wait 3 mon or 6 mon or even longer after the ceremony?? Please help.

Re: Reception after destination wedding.

  • why don't you invite the people you want to be there to the wedding in PA?

  • First of all, etiquette-wise, you shouldn't host a reception for yourself.

  • MI and PA are not the opposite ends of the earth. They are just a day's drive apart. Invite all to your wedding. You'll be surprised who makes the trip.
  • I would just invite everyone to the wedding in PA.
  • We are inviting everyone to PA. But 97% of the MI people are not coming. So we are going to do something here in MI for them.

Where did you get that idea?

OP, I suggest that you hold one event, but if you're determined to have an "at home reception", have it as soon as possible. People aren't really going to be in a mood to celebrate your wedding 6 months after the fact.

  • For some of us, it's not an option... my future bride and I are getting married in VT bc FL won't let us marry legally... we're doing a small ceremony with immediate family on a Wednesday, flying home Thursday, and having a big party/ reception in FL to celebrate that same week on Saturday... We're calling it our "wedding moon", but I wouldn't want to wait a long time between the actual wedding and the reception... but that's just me! :o)
