shapewear for under my dress

hey ladies!

I was planning to buy a full torso strapless bra and shaper (aka fat sucker) to wear under my dress. When I went in to buy one today, she basically told me they didn't have one in my size.  I wear a 38 C in Victoria's secret, but apparently the self esteem boosting wedding industry wants me to wear a 42A which they do not make.  So my question is... they had a padded push up that would work, but was still a little big in the cups, but might work under my dress, or should I just buy some spanx since I am mostly concerned with smoothing, slimming, and shaping through my hips and waist?  I just felt like crap leaving the store... I have lost 70lbs for my wedding and all the lady could talk about was how small my breasts were!  I was hoping to have something somewhat sexy or pretty under my dress, but I guess that might not be a possibility.  Just hoping for some feedback, thanks in advance!!

Re: shapewear for under my dress

  • You ca probably get away with some Spanx and maybe some cups sewn into your dress. I can't stand Victoria's Secret! If you ever have an opportunity, I suggest you go to Intimacy to get a fitting. Their bras our outrageously expensive, but the fitting is free (and they have decent sales a couple times a year). I have a feeling VS has your size all wrong... women are rarely wearing a smaller band size than they should be. If you're not near an Intimacy, see if there's any specialty lingerie stores around that can help you find the right size!
  • thanks!  I actually didn't go to VS for this, but I buy my bras there.  I was at a Davids Bridal today where she had me measured as a 42A instead of the 38C I usually wear at VS.  I am thinking I will just go get measured at VS or Soma and then order offline.  Thanks for the suggestion!!
  • My mom has similar issues, she's had good shopping experiences at Soma.  The sales staff are usually more curvy, which makes her feel at ease.  They also have a fuller range of curvier sizes.  Also, I know Frederick's of Hollywood has a wide variety of sizes, but I don't know how the quality, etc. stacks up against VS.  The one close to me closed years ago, and it always looked like VS's trashier cousin.
  • I am a "plus sized" lady with big boobs and VS always has me in a totally different size than any other store I've been to.  If there is a Hanes, Bali, or Playtex store around you then they can size you, help you try on stuff and if you still can't find what you are looking for in store you can order online and that will help you get a truer size. That's what I do for my shapewear.

Being that I bought my bra form Davids Bridal it sucks to hear that you had a bad experience (although a lot of people I have talked to had bad ones there). But I was a "plus" girl there and expected to be put into a long line bra, their cups ran different than I thought they would. I guess it depends on who makes the bras.

Good luck! Just advice with the Spanx make sure you try and do all daily activities in them before you commit to them for you big day.
  • I like one piece spanx. They are annoying but some have a button in the crotch. The one piece makes for less bunching and really smooths everything out. I love Nordstrum for spank.
