Ever heard of the New Apostolic Church?

I'm in the process of finding a new living arrangement and potentially a roommate.  A young lady I've been communicating with from a roommate matching service seems like a good match and reports being very involved in her church.  According to her Facebook profile, that's the NAC, with which I'm not at all familiar.  There's very little information online about this faith other than some history, apparently a doctrine of baptizing the deceased, and a mention of some similarity to Jehovah's Witnesses.

I don't have to live with someone who's faith is the same as mine, but this might be a bit out of my comfort zone.  She and I haven't met in person yet, so I don't feel comfortable bringing up the specifics of her religion.  TIA!

Re: Ever heard of the New Apostolic Church?

  • i havent heard of them, but if they are similar to jehovah's that could potentially be problematic for you in that they they may constantly  be trying to convert you or to get you to worship with them.

  • Sounds like a Pentacostal church.... they could be similar to "born-again" Christians that might be the type to be in your face about converting... but there isn't any sure way to know. You could post on the Christian Board and ask if anyone has information?
  • If she sounds like a good fit in every other way, just go meet her. No amount of general information about here religion is going to tell you exactly how she practices it. Be clear and upfront, though not rude. Mention that you read that she is active in her church and ask how much of that spills into the house. Tell her that you are active in yours and how much of that spills into your house. Then decide if the arrangement would be comfortable for both of you, and if you are both capable of respecting each other's beliefs. I think it's unfair to her to judge her for this without actually talking to her about it.

  • I don't know if you've met with her or not. But I know some of our Indian Catholic Churches go by new Apostilic Church because we moved away from the church during British rule. Now that we have our freedom again a lot of them are coming back to the church and we say we are New Apostilic Churches. I don't know if that's what she is talking about, but if it's important to you, you should ask.
