Anyone have experience with Amsale BM dresses?

My girls and I are going to look at BM dresses next weekend.  We're interested in the Amsale silk chiffon dresses.  They look beautiful in the pics, but I was perusing the dress section of bloomingdales.com, where they sell these same Amsale dresses, and they pretty much have all terrible reviews!  I.e. poorly sewn seams, improperly sewn zippers...  I would expect better for a $300 dress.  Has anyone bought an Amsale BM dress and can comment on the quality?

    Didn't buy any, but I/we did try some on. For the price tag, I totally don't think they are worth it. They didn't seem to be made any better or be of higher quality than a Mori Lee or Alfred Angelo. The fits were not flattering - even on my 5'10 125lb modelesque sister.

    We went with Alfred Sung instead. About half the price, good quality.

    Yeah, the only thing that sort of warrants the price tag is that they are made of real silk.  I had actually originally picked out some Alfred Sungs, but my BMs liked the Amsales better (online anyway), even though they are 2x the price!   Now I am thinking maybe J.Crew instead.  The girls want to wear silk chiffon because they think the fabric is more forgiving.

    Right, but if no one can tell (by sight or touch) that it's real silk, who cares? Why don't you find a salon that carries a number of mid to higher-end designers (the one I went to, Bella Bridesmaid, is a national franchise) and have the girls try stuff on?

    Looking online is really hard to get a feel for quality and fit. Don't settle on a designer from purely online pictures.

    Yeah, I think maybe we can go and check out a bunch of stuff in person.  I do like the JC dresses, and they are returnable, but they look kind of short, like in this pic:


    Can anyone comment on the short JC dresses?

    I wore a J Crew dress in a wedding. Mine hit right above my knee (maybe an inch or two above). So if that's short for you, then yes, I'd veer away.

    Again though, I didn't see much of a difference in quality at the end of the day. But that stupid J Crew dress did cost me $100 more than the average BM dress.

    I do appreciate real silk--I can tell the difference.  But if we are paying that much for dresses the fit and construction better be good too!

    I made an appt with Bella Bridesmaids in my city--thanks for the advice!
