This woman's last name is 36 characters long. She has to carry two IDs because one last name one fit on one ID.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

Re: Just when you thought YOU had last-name problems!

  • I'd hyphenate the shit out of that one.  And make all of my students call me by that full name.  No shortening of names for them!!  :D

  • I can't get over the audacity of the county asking her to use her maiden name. Uhm...how 'bout you fix the clerical problem on your end??

  • It's ridiculous though that she considers the county's request an affront to all Hawaiians. Give me a break.

  • How does she make doctor's appointments over the phone?

I am not going to get any work done until I can pronounce this name properly. Good think I'm by myself for a while :D
  • If you figure out how to pronounce it, please post a phonetic guide for the rest of us!!

  • And I thought my Scandinavian name, with its awkward combination of consonants and vowels, was bad. I bow in submission before that mess of vowels.

You basically just pronounce every single letter, including double vowels.

Without emphasis on any of the last 16 syllables, it sounds like chanting.

  • There should be emphasis in the last syllables but I got tired trying to figure out where it should go. Maybe pretend it's iambic pentameter and put the emphasis on every second syllable.

  • I'm pretty sure the article quoted this woman as many times as possible so they could write out her name over and over.

Side note: I'm curious whether driver's licenses, test scan-trons, etc can handle the crazy amount of symbols in names coming their way
