OMG *VENT* I COULD KILL SOMEONE!

Most of you heard about my vent with not getting the promotion. Well, our city is under a flood warning and I am to the west of the flood site. Work is to the east. Work has called and said that they are not closing early. Well... how am I supposed to get there? Since all of the bridges over the flood area are CLOSED! Well... they have an amazing idea for that! Just park on the west side, where the river has not reached yet and walk over the bridge! It'll be fine...

I HATE MY JOB! Please Job fair next week... provide me with some new prospects!

Re: OMG *VENT* I COULD KILL SOMEONE!

  • If its not safe to drive it is not safe to walk.  Flood currents are extremely dangerous even if the water is not very high.  My aunt lived in Arizona when she got caught in a flash flood.  The water was only tire high, but enough to sweep her away with it.  She got very lucky that help was close by and able to pull her to a dry area.

I hope your work understands this, and will not make you come in.  Your life is more important than keeping the doors open for one evening.

Seriously? I would start looking for a new job ASAP! It's not like it's just a little bit of minor flooding.

ETA: BF and I aren't even close to the flood area and we're still minimizing the driving and time we go outside.

I would tell your work to go fuck themselves...or you know something abrasive if you want to keep working there till you find something else.

  • @suzie211 well said! definitely not safe to walk, let alone drive.

@psychbabe314 I would have lost my shit if my boss told me to WALK in a flood area. I hope you find something better! and soon!!!
  • Ya... basically this post is me losing my shit. But, the water is not over the bridge yet, but there is a second store that is supposed to come through and the store manager wanted to assure us that as soon as it started raining heavily again they would call off the day. I am more worried about the second storm and the levels rising quickly. Unfortunately, I have to go. I used up all my sick days to go on a mini-vacation and when I came down with a nasty cold last week... so... they will write me up if I don't come in.

So yes... something better has to be on the horizon! Next few weeks or so, new job would be amazing!
  • Something better is always on the horizon!!! it's just a slow-poke that waits for the absolutely perfect time to come into view.

I'm just going to assume you're in CO also because of the flooding? lol I freaked out this morning because I came into work in the heavy rain and NO ONE was here.  I thought I missed a memo about a late start of being closed or something. My boss was out for half the day because her basement flooded and a coworker called off all day because her sewer backed up.

I'm praying my house is water-free when I get home.
  • Well stay safe! I'd be worried about the second storm too!

also... if it were me, I'd take a write-up over risking my safety any way!

ETA: if your boss actually wrote you up, you could probably fight it with HR. it's unreasonable to ask you walk in flood waters. I bet you'd win that fight in a heartbeat.
  • @queenofhearts1728 - me too! Hopefully everything is nice and dry when you get home. and Yes :-) In Colorado.

@bethsmiles - take cover! lol. My home is far enough from the flood zones that I am not worried, but work is right near there. So... ya... :-(

@bubbles053009 - that is actually good to now. Since the President did declare this an Emergency... I should just take the write-up. But I am going to at least go and see the water levels. Talk to the volunteers, etc. I am hoping to get numbers and put my supervisor in one-on-one contact with the flood monitors so that way we can be out at ANY sign of danger, if they have not done this already.

To everyone in Colorado - Good luck guys! Hopefully your homes are safe!

  • Did the president really declare it an emergency???? I'm out of the loop, apparently.
  • @queenofhearts1728 - Yup. I think he declared it a state of emergency yesterday. It's really bad. Three people have died and more are missing, they've evacuated thousands (some entire towns!), roads are falling apart, and buildings have collapsed.

  • I've seen some of the roads collapsing, but I didn't know anyone had died. I don't have cable/tv, so I get my news from following the stations on Facebook.

It's so sad :( We've had a lot of people die in floods this year. I can't believe it.
  • Stay safe!
  • Thanks guys. I went to work and they let us go early (8pm) so I just got back home. The river was high, but it was safe to cross (the firefighter monitoring said so anyways). But, it might be closed up again tomorrow since there is another large storm coming through tonight.

Also, update: 4 dead, 80 unaccounted for. So... it does look grim in some places
  • @psychbabe314 - I'm glad you made it home safely!
