wedding gown color

I could really use some opinions. My dress is a soft white/ivory that I purchased from David's Bridal. The dress is more of a soft white and of a chiffon material. I was told to have my groom wear a ivory shirt under his black vest. He is not wearing a jacket just a vest dress pants with a pumpkin orange tie with the selves rolled. My colors are a truffle and a pumpkin We are getting married outdoors pretty much in the woods. I am not set on the Ivory shirt for my Groom. I did take my dress to Mens Warehouse to compare and even took a picture with my cell and asked family that wasn't there. Almost everyone said to have the G wear the white shirt. But David's & Men's say the Ivory that if his shirt is too white my dress will look dingy. When compare the mens shirts to my dress my dress is between the two colors. A sales lady said the rule of thumb is to have the G to be darker then the bride Only the bride should stand out. I am just afraid with pictures one of us will off set the other. Any one else have this problem and what did you go with? Thanks

I think ivory will go better with brown and orange. Why can't you have a dad or brother Try on both colors next to you during one of your fittings?. Then you can decide.
  • I think ivory will look better with your color scheme. But FWIW, I had a lace dress from allure in the ivory/cafe combo (furthest from white they offered) and my groom wore a white shirt. It didnt make my dress look dirty in photos. Obviously it wasn't a white dress which is why I chose it. I thought it looked fine.

  • Ivory shirts just look odd, IMO. Like they're dirty, since we're so used to seeing white. No one will notice or care that the two of you are in slightly different shades.

  • I wore an ivory dress, DH wore a white shirt (with a vest but no jacket). Looked perfectly fine.

  • I think you're over thinking it. Either will be fine.
  • I'd do the white shirt. Ivory shirts always look kinda funny. He won't make your dress look dingy.
  • If you are unhappy with the color of both ...go purchase a tuxedo shirt ...use that in lieu if the MW shirt. PS the rental shirts they show you are never worn ...they sit on a hangar to show ...the one he will get in the rental may be different .... If you buy a shirt ...you can look at all types of stores and match that way. If you do that tell MW you don't want the shirt rental ....they will take that percentage of the rental off the total price ...but it may be like 5-10 dollars off ....and buying a shirt is more but it will match and your pictures won't show different colors ...
  • I had an ivory dress from DB that didn't look ivory at all to me.  The guy at the tux rental place suggested an ivory shirt so they would match better.  Their idea of ivory was the same as DB and it didn't look weird at all.
  • I wore a champagne/goldish coloured gown, and DH was in a beigey linen suit cos we got married in Hawaii.  They were almost identical in colour.  I think we looked pretty damn good.  Wear what you are both comfortable in.
