Alternatives to Mother/Son Dance?

My fiance's mom is in a wheelchair with very limited ability to stand for very long, for various health reasons.  I really, really want my fiance and future mother-in-law to have a special moment at our wedding, but my fiance doesn't think they will be able to do the mother/son dance.

Does anyone know of any alternatives that we could do that would give them their moment but not seem "less" than the traditional dance?

I am also thinking a cute fast-paced song for them to dance to while in her chair would be cute, if she is comfortable with it.  Does anyone have any fast-paced song ideas?

Thanks so much!

Re: Alternatives to Mother/Son Dance?

  • Why don't you ask your FMIL if she has anything in mind?
Before asking for suggestions for fast songs, see if she wants to go that route or if it will make her feel uncomfortable.

  • People in wheelchairs can still dance.    I think it should be left up to the fiance and mom what they want to do.  It's their moment.  If they're stuck maybe they could do a poem, read a story that he loved when he was a kid, or he could give her something meaningful.
