Weekend

How was your weekend? Mine was good!

Friday, H and I tried to get tattoos for Friday the 13th but there were SO many people on the waiting list that we never got called. I was bummed. We were pretty lazy for the rest of the night.

Saturday, @BriSox81 and Mr. BriSox stopped by for a little bit and then H and I headed to DE for my aunt's surprise party. It was an 80's theme and it was really fun!

Yesterday, my step dad picked me up and we went to the Eagles game. We had a great time even though we lost :( We stopped at Pat's for cheesesteaks and then I took the bus home to NJ.

I feel like I got NO sleep all weekend and I could really use another day off.

Re: Weekend

  • good morning!

I am so sad the weekend is over!  the most exciting thing I did was scrub down the shower (thanks for the sponge tip, @buddysmom80, it really worked --- and was totally gross!).  that and spent some of my birthday money on some new cooler weather staples.  I keep my clothes for years and years, until they just fall apart... and then break down to buy something new.

I got the cutest new button down shirt from Target with birds on it!

it's rainy this morning, and it truly feels like fall.  it's going to warm up, but I really enjoy the cool mornings and warm afternoons.

tonight I'm making a fresh apple cake for my mom, and if it isn't raining I'm going to walk the dogs until their little legs just fall off.  somehow (ahem, H!!) the pups have gotten a bit pudgy and need to get some exercise.

speaking of exercise, my alarm went off 15 minutes earlier than I thought it would (I guess I set it too early), so H and I took advantage of it and got a little bit of our own exercise in.  HELLO, MONDAY.
  • @Swazzle Sorry you didn't get your $13.00 tattoo. Maybe next time!

Friday night I shopped for @southernpeach89 's Stock the Bar wedding shower and I spent most of Saturday prepping for it.

The party was a success and I think everyone had a great time. It was a very non-traditional shower...we just had tasty food and beer and wine and I had the corn hole games set up and a fire pit going. Around 9:30 we opened gifts. The bridal party all got together to buy southern and her FI a wall-mounted reclaimed wood wine rack from Etsy. We also got them everyday use wine glasses to go in it. The wine rack is extra deep so it can hold other liquor bottles besides wine...think larger bottles like those for whiskey or tequila. I'd post a pic but my broswer seems to suck and won't let me do it. They were also gifted with some lovely wines, tequilas, and other hard liquors to stock their home bar with. I think my favorite one was the moonshine with a slice of watermelon in it.

Saturday I also took my puppy dog to the vet for her 4th round of puppy shots. She weighs 28 lbs now...which is a 9 lb gain from her last appointment a month ago! Sunday BF and I had some friends over to play kubb. It's a fun game where you basically throw wooden dowels across a playing field and try to knock over the opposing team's kubbs (6 inch tall wooden blocks). Once you've knocked over the other team's kubbs you have to knock down a wooden king piece in the middle. While we were playing Cinders "discovered" the pond in the backyard and actually jumped in for the first time. She's constantly chasing frogs into it but this is the first time she's ever dived in. She had blast splashing around and then running laps around the yard like a helion to dry off. After our friends left BF and I took a shower with the dog to get her cleaned off and then we all went to my parent's for my dad's belated birthday party.

I am really really tired. I'm thankful this shower is finally past. Now it's 6 or 7 weeks until the bachelorette party in October so I get a nice vacation from wedding stuff for awhile.

  • I totally needed another day for the weekend as well. I took like 3 naps yesterday...on our way to church, at FI's mom's house for lunch, and on our way back to my parent's house for my dad's bday dinner...I'm still tired lol.

The shower was so much fun! @lmhollister is the best hostess eva! It was nice to catch up with all our friends and my bridal party surprised us with a really nice wine rack! It's gorgeous and FI found a place to hang it up in the apartment. We got a bunch of wine so we should be good to go on alcohol up until the wedding.

I'm ready for the weekend again and it's only Monday ugh....
  • My weekend went by way too fast! The weather was perfect though, so I was outside enjoying most of it!

Friday I didn't feel like cooking so I picked up dinner at Subway which is right next door to Michael's. I bought some new knitting needles and yarn for a project that I originally was going to make for my mom, but I liked it a lot better for me lol. We ate dinner then brought Quigs over to BF's old roommate's house so he could play with their puppies (including a 12 week old Great Dane who is the size of a full grown lab right now!!!!). It was his old roommate's daughter's birthday so we had birthday cake too which was delicious!

Saturday I put dinner in the crock pot, then we started cleaning up outdoor furniture to put away for the winter :(, went to Namco to get pool closing supplies and pretty much hung around being lazy. Oh and I also did a week's worth of laundry since I'm feeling better and need to get my house back in order!!! I felt well enough to walk to the package store and bought a couple of bottles of wine. We ate dinner, then our neighbor came over and we hung out on our porch until about midnight. We ended up watching comedy specials on my iPad outside via Netflix. I may have drank both bottles of wine I bought previously.

Sunday we closed to pool and I cleaned out the shed that we're selling in the spring. I was going to organize the garage but there just wasn't enough time. I was sad this morning when I looked out the window and saw the winter pool cover on. We could've cleaned out the garage but we decided football was more important to watch. It was nice to see the Giants lose!

This weekend we're going to my parent's house so nothing is going to be done in regards to weekend projects but it'll be good to see my parents!

@cocobellaf: I'm glad the sponge thing worked out for you! I use it every time I'm in the shower!

@swazzle sorry about the Eagles losing!

  • @cocobellaf - Now THAT is a great start to the week!

@lmhollister and @southernpeach89 - Sounds like a really great time at the shower!

@buddysmom80 - What did you make for dinner on Saturday? I ended up not making the pumpkin gingerbread trifle. I was lazy and didn't bring anything to the party with me, which ended up being fine because as usual, there was way more than enough food.

  • @swazzle I made spaghetti sauce in the crockpot lol! It was good, but spicy because I put hot italian sausage links in instead of regular and on top of that I added crushed red pepper flakes. Next time I'll do the same recipe but just put regular sausage in. Hopefully we have enough sauce left over that I won't have to cook anything for the rest of the week!

  • @buddsymom80 - YAY! I have SO much sauce left over from when I made it on Friday. Next time, I'm going to add a little more red pepper flakes. H doesn't like it too spicy but I like it to have a kick. I'm trying to think of things I can make this week with the sauce because it was so good!

  • I tried a new crockpot recipe yesterday that turned out really well...  a Moroccan chicken and carrot stew (but we served it with rice instead of couscous because I am cheap and wanted to use what I had in the pantry).  it cooked with a cinnamon stick in there!  I <3 my crockpot.
  • @swazzle: I might make this san cottage cheese: http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/2012/12/million-dollar-casserole.html instead of cottage cheese I'll use ricotta.

@cocobellaf: I LOVE my crock pot!!!! I didn't use it that much in the summer except to make chicken broth but in the fall I usually make my weekend meals from it.

  • Weekend wasn't bad. Roller blading with the BF on Saturday was super fun. We went to visit my mom on Sunday since my dad's off on a business trip and she was lonely. Took her out for dinner and BF helped her do some things around the house that she couldn't. Watched a lot of movies, had some drinks and just relaxed. Also visited my fraternity brothers Sunday night because it was brother meeting. BF was so patient. He's a Freemason so I wait for his fraternity stuff and he waits for mine!

  • @swazzle @buddusmom80 what crockpot recipe do you use for your spaghetti sauce? Please can I haz?

I didn't get quite everything I planned on doing, done. Friday night I laid on the couch all night. I never got around to making Bean's breakfast casserole and I feel like a bad mommy.

Saturday morning, my mom and I took Bean to breakfast at IHOP instead. Then he and el Senor went off to ride roller coasters. I laid on the couch some more and then mom and I went to do some shopping. Got some super insanely comfortable maternity pants. Then we went to Costco and bought a poop ton of food. After that we went to the toy store and bought Bean a gift. Turns out we got the wrong thing lol

Sunday, Bean and I went back to the toy store to exchange his gift for the correct item. Then we stopped for decaf PSLs. When we got home, it was back to the couch and I didn't move, except to pee and move to the bed, for the remainder of the night. I'm kinda feeling like doodoo lately.

  • @buddysmom80 - That looks SO yummy!

@beanbot2002 - I made @lennonkdc's recipe! It was 2 large cans of crushed tomatoes, 1 small can of tomato paste, I used 1 whole onion (Lennon used shallots), a billion cloves of garlic, and then I just eyeballed salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. I left it on low from 6:30am until I got home from work around 5pm. Oh and I added frozen meatballs too.

  • @beanbot2002 I just tried to remember @lennonkdc's recipe and winged it from there, so it was close lol. I took a can of crushed tomatoes, a can of tomato sauce and a can of tomato paste and threw it in there with a bunch of different herbs (garlic, basil, oregano, crushed red pepper, s &p), onions, green peppers, some brown sugar and threw in a couple of tablespoons of butter right before we ate. I added a bag of frozen meatballs and a pack of spicy italian sausage (which I won't do again because the sauce was freaking spicy!) put it on low all day. It makes a TON of sauce!

@swazzle I've made that casserole before, it's like lasagna, it's so much better the next day! I might freeze the leftovers this time.

  • Did you add the meatballs at the beginning, or like the last 30 minutes?

  • Hiya, all! Sounds like everyone had fun and/or productive weekends!

BF and I did laundry and packed on Friday night. Saturday we traveled to his dad's place and then went to his 10-year high school reunion. It was all right - I mean, clearly he had a lot more fun than I did, but it was in a ballroom with dimmed light and it was hard to even pick out people he might know.

Yesterday we went to the Rays at Twins game, and even better, we got to see the Twins win (they don't do that very often). I attempted to score the game, and I definitely got better at it as the game went on, so that was fun - but it did make for a long day because we had a very long drive home. I could use today to sleep.
  • I added all the meatballs and sausage in the beginning and they were cooked by the time we ate.

  • My weekend was pretty boring.  Friday night I studied. Saturday studied all day late afternoon we ran some errands I studied the rest of the night.  Yesterday I studied all day/night watching some football in between.  I have off today but the plan is laundry, studying and some organizing of stuff around the house.  I wish I could just sleep all day.  Only 4 more days left of my old job though!!!!

Same. I added the frozen meatballs and mixed them in before I left for work.

  • I'm so happy my sauce was a hit! I love using my crock pot to make sauce, its impossible to mess it up and it makes plenty of sauce to freeze!

My weekend started off pretty good, Friday I had ice cream with my two best GF (one of the is KU'd so we chose a non-wine related activity)  and 'officially' asked them to be in the wedding. They said yes and are really excited.

Saturday FI and I took down a pine tree in our backyard, I hated to see it go, but it was growing too close to the house :( After that I got cleaned up and headed over to the hospital to visit my 'third' grandpa, B. On my way there my mom called to tell me that they were talking him off all life sustaining equipment, and limiting visitors to immediate family. So I headed home to have a good cry, and FI and I watched movies on the couch.

Sunday morning my dad called to tell me that B had passed peacefully. So it was a sad day. FI and I watched the Browns game, and then my cousin, her H and their two kids came over so that her H could help FI install our new WiFi thermostat.

@beanbot2002 it's SO good! I can't wait to make it and eat it all like in a sitting.

ETA: I also make this with leftover sauce. I'd just chop up the meatballs and sausage. Also I don't actually make the "pie" I'll just sautee chopped eggplant with the onions, put the smoked mozzarella on top and bake it. My mom makes the actual recipe, and it's so good: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/everyday-italian/eggplant-timbale-recipe/index.html

  • @lennonkdc - hugs. I'm so very sorry.
  • @Swazzle - Jealous of the cheesesteaks - yum!

@CocobellaF - Jealous of your Monday morning fun! That's definitely the right way to start your week.

I feel accomplished because BF and I ordered a heavy duty rotary paper trimmer, more good card stock, and envelopes. We also set up a shared calendar and scheduled all the items we need to accomplish in order to open our Etsy shop by Oct. 1st. We're taking this super seriously and really want to make some $ with it. It has already been so much fun working on this together, especially since we're a great team. I just cannot wait to open up and wait for our first sale!

Also - any Breaking Bad fans here? Did anyone else nearly have a heart attack while watching last night's episode? I can confidently say that it was the best hour of television in history.

I'm designing wedding invitations and save the dates. I think I'm going to do things like programs and table numbers too, eventually.

  • This weekend was a blast - we had a party to get rid of all the wine we had in the house (to make room for the wine we bought in Napa).  Not to mention it was the first time we had seen a good amount of people since we got engaged, so it was all sorts of fun celebrating!

Yesterday was just plain recovery - we both woke up at 7.30, each grabbed a couch, and then fell asleep until the Bears game (which I then fell asleep halfway through again).  Sure do feel rested today!

The best part is that I think I might have our location for our wedding chosen - we are going to see it on Saturday to confirm, but I love everything I have found out so far, and unless something is hugely wrong with the place, I think we have it nailed down! :)

I still can't breathe. The entire thing I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. I cried four times. I don't know if I can handle these next two episodes.

My weekend - we had two weddings. BFs best friend got married on Friday in NJ, and then one of my best friends got married back up here on Saturday. It was a longgggg weekend, but we had so much fun. Friday's wedding was gorgeous - the venue was right on the water, directly across from the Freedom Tower, so the views were spectacular (but the food wasn't very good.) Saturday's was SOOO much fun (even though we were exhausted.) The groom at that one told BF when we were leaving that we were third in line to get married and the other two couples are already engaged, so he has to propose soon. I didn't stop him ;)

Saturday before we headed home we stopped to see Swazzle & Mr. Swazzle and their babies. I almost stole Lucille, but I think Swazzle would have been mad, so we left her there.

Yesterday we lounged around aaalll day, picked up our puppy from her babysitters, ordered pizza, and watched Breaking Bad. I could have used another day off. I'm still tired.
