To everyone: Thank you for all your support. As
promised I am giving you an update. We arrived early to our appointment at 9:15 AM (I was nervous and I just wanted to get there), plus her office is at a
hospital, so I figured it couldn't hurt. By 9:45, we were in the examining
room. My neighbor was observing (which was a bit awkward, but she helped me get
this appointment so I figure that this was the least I could do). I got blood
drawn (labs were marked STAT), and the standard urine test. The urine test was
positive. Before we left, the doctor talked about our options (adoption,
abortion, and parenting). She wasn't judgmental while she spoke about each
option (nor did not push for one or the other) and was very
professional. Because the labs were marked stat, we knew that the
results would come to us quickly. At 4 PM I got the results of the blood test
back and my hCG levels indicate that I am five weeks pregnant. She recommends
scheduling an ultrasound appointment soon. FI and I had a long discussion
last night. We decided that if all goes well (assuming I won't miscarry) we are going to parent. FI has been amazing in terms of
communicating his feelings and supporting me. We weighed the pros and the
cons, looked at it from a logistical perspective, we talked about our feelings,
calculated our finances, and made our decision based on those results. I feel
good about our decision, because we came to the same conclusion together. Will
it be easy? No. Will we get through it? Yes. I am speaking with the dean of my
school to see if I can stay. So far, my advisor has told me that they usually
allow students a leave of absence for a year, and if they return at the year
mark they will continue to receive scholarship. I just hope what she said is
accurate. Thanks again ladies
