RSVP Date

So I went to pick out my invitations this weekend. I'm (not so) patiently waiting for my proof.  One thing that didn't even cross my mind was the RSVP date.  We're getting married Saturday May 17, 2014.  I need to have my numbers/seating arrangements to the venue by Tuesday May 13th.  (Just confirmed this with the venue)

I originally thought I had to have my numbers in on May 3rd.  So I told the invitation lady to make the RSVP April 18th.  Now that seems way too early.

What do you guys suggest?

Re: RSVP Date

  • I have seen people have it anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks from weddings I have been invited to. We did 4 weeks but only because I know we will have to track down a lot our family, they just won't send their RSVPs back, and our counts are due 2 weeks before.
  • My final count was due 1 week out so I made the RSVP by date 10 days before that (so 2.5 weeks before my wedding day). That gave me time to receive last minute RSVPs in the mail and call people who didn't RSVP at all. I don't know that it's the end of the world but if you can change it, I'd go with May 3rd.

  • Make it two weeks before you have to tell your venue. The first week of that two is for the stragglers that have mailed them late. The second week of that two is for you, FI, MOB, or MOG to contact their invitees.
  • Nobody will think a month is weird. If the RSVP cards are already purchased and made, I wouldn't spend money to get new ones. If you can change it easily, going with 2 weeks before the date you need your count for the venue seems reasonable.

  • I'd move it to around May 1 if you still can. The later it is, the less people you'll have backing out last minute. Ours was three weeks out and we had a bunch.
  • Thanks Ladies!  Always a big help.  I was concerned about colors/wording/etc that I totally forgot about when I need to have numbers in.

I haven't see the proof yet and can still make changes.  I was told the invitations only take 2 weeks to come in.  I'm leaning towards waiting till right before the holidays to place the order.  I rather not have to store them for so long.

I would either get them ASAP or after the holidays. Think of all the christmas stuff being mailed out... it could take longer or get lost.

Thankfully the place where I'm getting my invites is 10 mins from my house.  I will go and pick them up.  But I could see with holiday craziness it taking a little longer to get to them.
    Thanks.
