Short Dress... Long Veil?

I hope noone else has asked about this... Its my very first post! Anywaay.... I am absolutely in love with this tea legnth dress
 http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Short-Printed-Organza-Gown-with-Floral-Sash-WG3313_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Silhouette-Short
And I'm thinking of wearing a cathedral legnth veil and a blusher for the ceremony, and a birdcage veil for the reception. I'm thinking that the veil would add a little drama and makeup for the shortness of the dress (and be fantastic in pictures, of course). But I can't find any pictures of this being done... So I'm not sure if I'm way off base. Opinions?

Re: Short Dress... Long Veil?

  • A cathedral length veil is far too formal for a tea length dress. I would wear the birdcage veil for the ceremony and no veil for the reception.
  • Is there a veil between fingertip and cathedral? I like the look of a blusher and a longer veil in the back. My mother insist that I should have a full legnth dress, so I was thinking that a longer veil might help her feel more comfortable as well
  • I honestly don't think it will look very good, but that's just my opinion. I would personally stick with a birdcage when it comes to a short dress or a shorter veil like this if you want a regular veil http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Short-Two-Tier-Veil-with-Pearls-and-Rhinestones-V948_Accessories-Veils-Short but I say nothing longer than your fingers or it might look a little odd. Again this just my personal opinion on the look.
  • Before seeing the dress, I was thinking that there was no way it would work.  I do think that dress could carry a long veil.

    p.s. LOVE the dress!
  • I agree with ootmother2.

I agree- it might look a little bit wonky. I'd go with a shorter veil, I think it will match the style of the dress better. Birdcage, sholderlength with a blusher, something like that.

  • I had some difficulty choosing a veil too and looked all over the internet for help and advice.  What I found useful was the info from the Vera Wang on Weddings app.  It totally solved my veil issues!Laughing
  • Iʻm doing it with a knee-length ball gown and a cathedral veil

  • I agree with pp to just do bird cage the whole time. But there are shorter veils out that would hit you about mid-back or close to your waist. I would recommend when you go get your dress to try different veils on with the dress to see how the different lengths look. If you are getting a dress not at a bridal shop, call a local dress shop & make an appointment and explain you got a dress at regular store & are looking to get a veil to go with it (they'll be more helpful if you have an appointment). Then take the dress with you & go veil shopping. When you try the dress on with the different styles of veils I think you'll realize quickly what length & style will look the best & you like too.
  • @dfulton808  you should post your own discussion or something instead of digging up old threads.  However, I don't think those two (knee length dress and cathedral veil) go very well together at all.
