What was YOUR best gift

So I've been debating what to get my bridesmaids for their gifts. I don't want to give them things specifically for the wedding....also my niece is a junior bridesmaid and is 12. I'm curious to know what the best bridal party gift you got was and why?

I've never received a "good" bridesmaids gift per se, as none was personal to my taste. Jewelry, monogrammed bathrobes, clutches that match the wedding, and "survival kits" are not good gifts.

    Get each one something personal.

For the coffee lover: A new travel mug, a new stoneware mug and a Starbucks gift card

For the beauty lover: A gift card to Sephora and a fancy set of makeup brushes

For the wine lover: A bottle of her favorite red/white and a nice set of wine glasses

For the reader: A new accessory for her Kindle and an Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift card

    Get the idea?

  • The very best gift I could be given would be something that felt like the bride had shopped for my birthday or Christmas. For example, I'm way into the NFL, and while I don't have a favorite team (blasphemy!) I love doing picks and fantasy football. A copy of Matthew Berry's new book on fantasy football would be an awesome gift for someone like me, or a membership to NFL Insider would be great, too.

Your wine-drinking friend should get a couple good bottles of wine and perhaps wineglasses. Your book-loving friend should get the next book in her favorite series and a gift card to Barnes & Noble.

As far as your junior bridesmaid, I'm so far out of touch on what good gifts for girls her age are it's not even funny. If you don't know what she's into, could you call her parents and ask for insight?

    Good luck!
  • My favorite was from my sister (I was her MOH).  She had known for a while that I wanted a pearl necklace.  As a gift to me she got me the one I had been drooling over.  She also bought gifts for her other BMs that related to their hobbies and every day likes.  I think one girl she got a really nice set of wine glasses and two nice bottles of wine.  Another she bought a crystal vase since the girl always kept fresh flowers in her home.  Things like that.

Oooh! I want to be your sister's friend!

All of her gifts sound super thoughtful.

  • These are all good ideas. As dumb as it sounds I guess I didn't really think of it as like buying a birthday gift kind of deal. As far as my niece goes, I kind of know what she's into (we're very close) but it changes all the time and quite frankly she's spoiled. She seriously has a ridiculous amount of things. I'll have to keep thinking about her.

You can always ask her mom what's on the niece's birthday/Christmas list.

Otherwise, what (almost) teenage girl wouldn't love a giftcard to Itunes and/or the local mall?

  • I can definitely ask my brother and her mom (they are divorced and my niece lives in Texas). iTunes is actually a really good idea. I just want to stay clear of what's "trending" like Bieber and all that. One day she loves him and then next she's on to something else :) Silly girl. She also likes earrings now that I think about it. Maybe I'll do both. I'm excited to see her reaction the most since she doesn't even know she gets a gift.
  • @Nicmorrison14 - not sure if she has ever had one but you could always get buy her a small spa day package where she can get a mani/pedi.  I know if I was 12 and was more of a girly girl I would be super excited to be pampered at a spa.

  • My favorite present was my MOH gift from my sister at her rehearsal dinner. I had been eyeing this beautiful necklace on Ann Taylor's website for a few months. It was a wonderful gift and I'll be wearing that necklace on the wedding day. :)
  • ALl of my "gifts" have been a necklace/earrings to wear at the wedding, so the 1 I received that wasn't related to the wedding is my best.  My BF gave me a hoodie from a school where she lives, which I actually love.  I wear it all the time.  She also gave me earrings made from elk bone, which are very cool, and very much about where she's from, but I haven't worn them yet, so it's not a great gift for me.

  • My only gift was a flask :/ I wasn't even 21 at the time.. just 18. But, it was cool for college because how many girls do you know with a flask ;)

That being said, I found these really cute bracelets I'm getting at least 2 of my maids. The one is big into orangutangs and tree of life and the other loves nick nacky art stuff and mustaches. It's leather rope bracelets. I know they'd love them, the other two bridesmaids, not so much.  They're only like $5 a piece though. Obviously I'm going to get them something more.
My MOH is big into Disney (mickey mouse mainly) and I will be getting her a mickey mouse 1928 cartoon tote bag (as long as she doesn't buy it when she's at Disney in Jan.) and will probably get some small stuff to fill it up with. Maybe some hair accessories since she's big into belly dancing now. My other bridesmaid I'm clueless on. She's my brother's FI and he couldn't really help me either lol

  • I've never gotten a bridesmaid gift. Got a nice card though. Definitely shop as if you're buying them something for their birthday, though.

I'm only having my MOH, no other bridesmaids, and I have no idea what I'm going to get her. Luckily I've still got a year and a bit to worry about it.

  • It never occurred to me to get each BM their own unique gift rather than get everyone the same thing. Thanks girls, I will do that :) much easier too because only like one of my BMs is very girly.

  • One girl is a bartender so I'm getting her some awesome bartending stuff for her new house and probably a bottle of her favorite liquor.  The other I'm getting some jewelry making supplies since she has started making jewelry recently.  The third I'm getting a gift card to her favorite local vintage store.
