Shoe advice needed for a not quite long enough dress!

So... I know it's far less quality or cost than one would normally pay for a dress... But we're doing this wedding stuff quite informally with a frew friends in the front yard on a crazy small budget. The bonus is that I actually LOVE the dress but the only thing is that I'm 5'11" and it's maybe a bit too short on me. The model in this picture is 5'9" so the dress probably grazes the top of my ankles on me.

Obviously it can't be altered so it's LONGER... Is it the worst thing to wear a maxi-dress style that doesn't touch the ground? What type of shoes should I wear, if so? I notice that the model wears some skyscraper heels and it actually looks OK with the dress so far off the ground, but my groom is an inch taller than me and I wouldn't like to tower over him TOO much.

Any advice? I was hoping for an open toed kitten heel (something like this: http://amzn.com/B00CJMKDC2 for ceremony/pics - then flip flops for the rest of the night!) but I know almost NOTHING about fashion so I'd love some advice!

I'd say maybe a cute pair of flat shoes to wear for the ceremony and reception. Something not too plain but not too flashy. Maybe something like this: http://www.modcloth.com/shop/shoes-flats/sheer-to-fall-in-love-flat-in-cream

I actually like the look you are going for, including the shoes. I think anything simple & strappy will go nicely. I would avoid big heavy style shoes like platforms.

doeydo! i might even get these exact shoes because they're trimmed in vegan leather and i'm vegan!

so nobody thinks it's a crime against the institution of marriage that the dress doesn't touch the top of my feet?

I don't like the dress with the huge heels in the model pic--it's clear the dress is too short. I think if you go with flat strappy sandals, (a fancy pair, like with crystals or whatnot) it will look okay, even if it doesn't touch the top of your feet.

LOL...you won't go to bridal jail for not having a traditional dress or for not having a full length dress. Wear what you love and are comfortable in.
