A place to find a more laid back vows

and ceremony format? I am looking for something not quite so formal because our wedding is casual and we are pretty laid back people. Thanks :-)

Re: A place to find a more laid back vows

  • Talk to your officiant. Ours was ok with doing a very laid-back type of ceremony, short & sweet (about 20-25mins long). We are also using vows from the movie "The Vow" (we mixed & matched the man's & woman's from the movie) which are not the standard "in sickness & in health....etc"

We will still have all of the components of a regular ceremony, just a more casual style (the wording).

  • Just because you have a casual wedding doesn't necessarily mean you have to have "casual" vows. Ask your officiant for ideas. Write the vows your self. Google around for short ceremonies. Make sure your state doesn't have specific ceremony requirements.

I'm sure other ladies can come along and give you more examples, but there are tons out there.

  • Try something short, sweet, and simple. There are tons of great wedding books with sample vows. Check your local library.

We want casual vows and neither of us want to write our own vows because we're big joksters and we don't want it to come across as one big joke. I will google short ceremony ideas because I didn't even think of that. I will also check my library. They're aren't any restrictions on vows in our state for sure. Thanks everyone and if anyone else has any good online source that would be great appreciated!

I love the snark around here, haha!

Thanks! Our officiant has a few samples to send over to us. We may piece together the things we like. My FI and went to a couple weddings this summer and the ceremonies seemed so boring and robotic so we want something a little different that flows better with our personalities.

  • When we were first engaged, we were planning to write our own ceremony and I found these resources very helpful.

We ended up doing a Quaker ceremony with the traditional Quaker vows (except we too the God references out): "In the presence of these our family and friends, I, [name], take thee, [name], to be my husband, promising to be unto thee a loving and faithful wife as long as we both shall live." Short, sweet, and to the point.
  • Thank you @emmyg65
