help? creative wedding favors?

I know favors aren't mandatory, but my wedding dress is BLUE, so I figured I'd keep this bit of tradition.

I have no idea what to do for favors. My wedding is outside and mostly family so I'm kind of leery about knick knacks and melty chocolates. I was wondering if peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a mason jar would be cool? ( The wedding is in Georgia in May)

This isn't a favor...it's dessert. A great dessert, at that. I'm sure guests will love it.

    Favors aren't a "tradition", FWIW.

If you do not have a passion for a specific favor, just save your money and skip trying to come up with a "creative" favor.

  • Favors are something people can take home - ice cream and cobbler isn't going to keep long enough for people to take home with them.

What if you had mini jars of peach jam?

I was going to do pies in mason jar until we realized the wide mouth half pints weren't oven safe. So if you go this route make sure you buy the oven safe ones. I'd skip the ice cream so people can take the cobbler home if they wish, but I'd prolly eat it right on the spot! :-9

We ended up doing butternut popcorn in our wedding colors in the mason jars from Al's Popcorn: http://www.alspopcorn.com

  • Favors are something that the guests are supposed to take home with them, therefor cobbler and ice cream isn't a favor.  You could do just the cobbler in a jar (with a lid) or canned preserves or jams.

  • There is a cookie that looks like a little peach.  They are adorable.  Just google cookie that looks like a peach.  I have not made them so I am not sure of all the ingredients and if melting is a risk.  My friend made them, so they can be done DIY if you wanted to go that route or a bakery should be able to do it.

  • I enjoy the mason jar idea tremendously, but would most likely stray from the ice cream. Some things I have done with mason jars include a homemade body scrub -- coconut oil and fruit zest. Coloring if you would like. Or a dry ingredient recipe -- layer the dry ingredients for chocolate chip cookies and then they add the wet ingredients when it is time to make!

    Hope this helps.

I'm doing these! Not just one flavor though. They have quite a variety. I'm putting labels on them that say something like "Spread the Love! FI's name & My name. Date."

"Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale."
  • @Speedchick23those are cute!  Btw, when I clicked the link it showed little Nutellas as an item others have purchased.  mmm little Nutellas.

  • Is it possible to give peaches themselves, without the mason jars or jam?
  • Thank you! Nutellas sound good too!

I must be missing something.  I am not quite sure how the color of your wedding dress ties in with peach cobbler.  I do understand the tie in between peaches and Georgia.  If you want to have a peach themed favor, peach jam, peach flavored candies or cookies, or cookies in the shape of a peach would work.  If you want the favors to tie into the color of your dress, you could have any number of blue candies, or blueberry muffins, jam, or cookies.

Ohhhh....are you saying you want to offer a traditional favor because your dress is untraditional?  I get it.....yeah....favors aren't really traditional.
  • I would consider peach candy. If you have guests who fly the lid of a jar may cause issues at the airport. Depending on the size of the small jar they may not let people keep them. ( Less than X ounces of liquid aloud in luggage).
  • Until I read your post, I did not know favors were optional.
