Newbie and Already Frustrated!

Hi everyone! Newbie here....both to this forum and to Vegas. My fiancee and I have been engaged for a month and both moved to Vegas very recently. We've decided on 8/9/14 as a wedding date but I have a huge dilemma.....are there any Vegas ceremony/reception locations that will allow you to do your own thing?

We don't want a wedding on the strip and we have a large guest list...250-300 people and we are both Nigerians and would like to have traditional Nigerian food and music during the reception but every location I've looked at does the all inclusive thing....no outside caterers, dj provided, etc. I'm literally about to pull out my hair. I'm hoping I just don't know where to look being new and all. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I'm new to the board, not to Vegas! But if you're looking for something completely bare bones and able to do your own thing MEET Las Vegas seems awesome. I've seen some really nice pictures of the space when it's all done up. I know they have people they go through or you can bring in your own. It also says their ground floor can seat up to 300!

  • Hello and welcome! Lucky you to be living in Vegas while planning. Some of my favorite scouting resources are vegasgroom's site and Little Vegas Wedding. Here are the links:

I think LVW might be a little bit better for your situation, since there are lots of non-Strip options and some more unique venues that may be a lot more flexible because they aren't traditionally wedding venues.

Best of luck! Keep us posted on what you find.
  • Thank you so much guys. Awesome resources....I have some research to go do now :). I'll keep you posted.
  • Yay, we found the perfect location!!! We met with the event coordinator at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center this past friday and we loved the space. Very modern and blank canvas for us to do what we like. I love the 100+ windows in this space and the pictures I've seen so far of different events held here are beautiful. I'm looking forward to coming up with my ideas on how to decorate this place for our day. Plus, they allow outside catering! We get to have our Nigerian food.....yes :)!!!

I found this place listed on the venue list on the littlevegaswedding website. Thank you!
  • Congratulations, that sounds wonderful!

  • I think some of the country clubs might be good options for this as well.
