Already had a registry?

I got engaged in July and had my engagement party in August. I had two registries. I still live with my mom and my fiancé and I are looking for a place so everything on the registry was home items for our new apartment. My wedding is in September and by then I'm sure that our apartment will have everything we need. Then what do I put on the registry for the wedding? Any ideas?

Re: Already had a registry?

  • You shouldn't have had a registry for your engagement party because engagement parties are a non-gift giving event.  But that ship has sailed.

Have both your registries been completely bought out?

I doubt that your apartment will have everything it needs by the time your wedding rolls around.  H and I have lived together for 5 years and have moved twice and we still don't have everything we could possibly need or want.

If you really can't think of anything else to add to your registries then leave them as is.  Most guests will give you cash at your wedding anyways.

Ditto @Maggie0829 on the engagement party.

Ask family and friends the things they're really glad they registered for and get some ideas of things you may not be thinking of. If you're still living at home, there's probably a lot of stuff you don't realize you need.

Also, when you move into your apartment, resist the urge to buy anything. If you find something you want to buy, add it to your registry instead. That should help you bulk it up in a hurry.

Like a shower curtain and liner...been there, done that.  It is amazing the things you take for granted and just expect to be there when living at home.

This is what we did.  It did suck for awhile having no serving bowls of an appropriate size and using blankets that didn't match the sheets.  But - at the end of the day, we had more money for our honeymoon when we didn't buy those things ourselves, and it gave our guests plenty of options.
