Re: THIS is what happens when you demand gifts! CAUTIONARY TALE ENCLOSED

  • Team Gretchen all the way.

  • This drives me insane.

J and I are getting flack for not registering anywhere.  I appreciate that our guests (family only) want to give us gifts, but we truly don't need anything and so we've chosen not to pick out potential gifts, hence no registering.

When asked about it, we've just been telling people that all we want is for them to come, eat dinner, be happy for us, and have a good time.

    Officially hitched as of 10/25/13

  • I was wondering about that, @alisonmarie658 so I just checked Community Rules. (As an aside, they are not easy to find. Maybe they are a sticky at the top of Tech Help, but I really had to search for them.) Anyway, thank you. I changed the post.
  • That is insane. I can't imagine treating someone like that!
  • Go Gretchen! I loved her letter.
  • I don't know whose worse.  The bride in that story or the two lesbian brides who were demanding a better gift from their guest (anyone remember that?), from a few months ago.
  • That is a fantastic letter (and very well written too!).

This a great post for those who think that it's okay to spend more money than they can afford on their wedding with the assumption that their guests will fund it all for them through cash gifts.

  • That was horrible and awesome, all at the same time.

  • Why can't we link to other posts?!?!
Because..."bullying" and the KGs make perfect sense

  • I just read this on glamour.com and was about to post it here. INSANITY!

Ungracious brides are on TK as well, specifically on the Registering board.
Oh God, I have gotten through two threads over there and I. . . I just want to vomit ><

But I'm at a reception and the Bride and Groom paid like $200 for my plate, so it would be rude if I upchucked, right?

I mean, I'm a classy bitch, I don't want to be tacky or rude.

  • Why on earth were they having a $200 per plate wedding when they need "gifts" in order to pay their bills?
  • Why on earth were they having a $200 per plate wedding when they need "gifts" in order to pay their bills?
Because OMG everyone DESERVES a big speeshul day and their guests should "refund" them the money they spent on it.

  • Gretchen's response was amazing. I love it when stuff like this goes viral. Serves the bride right.
  • I Love Gretchen. Way to go girl.

  • Am I the only one wondering what secrets Gretchen has been keeping for the bride? I'm intrigued :)

I think she was referring to the pregnancy, but if it was more juicy that'd be awesome!

  • ugh. just ugh.

But I bet if the article was written from the bride's POV all the comments would be on her side. I wish more people could see through such entitled people. Good for Gretchen for being the karma god!

After 6 years and 2 boys, finally tying the knot on October 27th, 2013!

That was my thought as well - that she knew about the pregnancy (bride may have been pregnant during the wedding?).

  • Gretchen hit the nails on the heads.
  • When I was like 7, I cried at my birthday party because a friend who was there got me a hideous swimsuit . I then started to tell him how much I hated it. My mom was great. She told the poor kid I was kidding, then took me into my room , giving me a mni lecture on ettiquette and letting me know, my friends didn't have to buy me anything. She also told me if I was unhappy with a gift I was not to tell the gift giver that. I can't believe no one ever told the bride that. Just basic good manners to me.
