Do you think I need a wedding planner?

My mother has been getting on me about planning this wedding by myself, trying to tell me I'm being cheap. Mind you my parents and his are paying for most of it.  I don't have kids or a house to manage so to me I have plenty of time. The venue is going to provide a maitre'D, bridal attendant and I'm working with someone all the way up to the day. The place is taking care of the food, setup, breakdown..pretty m uch everything. All I'm doing is getting the photographer, DJ, invitations, and decorations. even then I just drop off my decorations and they'll set it up for me.

I have a budget and I'm just trying to stick with it.

  • Sounds like a one stop shop... IMO as long as they are willing to get everything together for you on the day of there isnt a need for a planner because sounds like you basically already have one! HTH

  • awwww.  girl they bothering you already? lol. {{hugs}}

    well from an (amateur) planner's perspective (and this was just for my girlfriend, not a paid gig or anything I do on the side) I can say this:  whatever it is that needs handling, it would be really REALLY helpful to you not to have to handle it on the day of.   With the number of cousins to kiss and pictures to take and thanks to say, the last thing you wanna be bothered with is a vendor running up to you with:  hey where do I set up or I"m gonna be a little late or the flowers you wanted didn't come in that color can we substitute with this one?  It seems like everybody's job is to frustrate the hell outta the bride on a day she's trying to look and be as calm as possible.   I vote diy to your heart's but also consider making it clear to somebody that you are not taking phone calls that day. lol.  It's also not all or nothing you could get a planner who just works the day of/day before too.

  • I'm doing most of the planning myself, but I am gonna hire a "day of cordinator" to organize the last minute details become the contact person for the vendors during the wedding day. Everybody will go to her not me.
  • yup, that's my mother lol.

    Before we even decided on using the one stop shops, I was going to get a DOC because I don't pike being stressed. Thankfully the coordinator should take care of most stuff. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
  • If you diligently use the checklist on The Knot or one of the other wedding websites, it will help you make sure you don't forget anything. I'm doing a Destination Wedding working with a Travel Agent, resort wedding planner and an on site wedding coordinator. I'm still using a spreadsheet to keep track of expenses as well as the checklist. Weddings need a lot of attention to details. So, unless you are an Event Planner, I recommend getting all of the help you can find.
  • My wedding date is a little under 2 years away. I'm doing pre-planning now. I'll get with someone who can tweek my ideas probably a year away from the day and then hire a day of person.
