Etiquette for Group Gift

We received a group gift from my husband's colleagues (we didn't invite any co-workers to our wedding). In writing the thank you note, is it proper etiquette to write each person a separate thank you note? I figure each person should get their own, just wasn't sure if it was strange to send the same note to multiple people in the same office (I'll try to customize a bit - but hard to write something meaningfully different for one gift).

Re: Etiquette for Group Gift

  • Yes write to each person like they bought it by themselves. I.wouldn't mention the others who pitched in.
  • Yes, you should definitely write each of the people who contributed towards the gift an individual, personalized note.

Was it a group office gift as in EVERYONE did it and they signed "from office".In  my office, it is routine for us pitch in as a group and it is sign it just from the entire office, without identifyinf who actually pitched in. If THAT is the case here  then only one note is needed.

If some sweet people pitched in and signed "love, a, b, c, d", then individiual notes. It is okay if all the notes sound ssimiliar, nobody will compare or even judge if they do compare

  • At my shower each employee signed the card and they got me the biggest hodge podge of stuff from my registry so it was silly to list out items.  I said something to the effect of, "Thank you so much for all of the gifts! I can't believe how generous everyone was." I then mentioned that the water pitcher was my favorite and that the tent would soon be used when my husband went on his bachelor party.  I wrote cards to each employee who contributed.
  • I think your husband should write the thank you cards. He would probably have an easier time personalizing it since he knows these people and you don't.
