Our venue just cancelled! Mental support needed!

Our hotel - the Four Points Sheraton - just called to say that they have decided to close for remodeling and we would have to move our event! The rehearsal dinner, reception, guests, free bridal suite... all gone.  In one way its a blessing because they announced this remodeling after we booked, we've had 3 different contact people and had things change weekly as they moved remodeling plans around.  They called two other hotels to get them to "honor" our contract they said, but the hotel people there did not have the information and did not know if they could meet the price... I asked if Sheraton would pay for another mailing so people know where to go and have new information... they said they would but I don't believe them.

I am in public relations and plan big events all the time and so does the bride, my daughter, but I was supposed to leave on vacation in two days and then travel on business. Up at 5 a.m. to start making lists and planning a completely new reception.

Where is David Tutera when you need him?

Feeling resentful!

  • When is your wedding?
  • Are you saying you had guests staying there and now they are canceling the rooms, too?  What does your contract say about what the hotel has to do if they cancel?
  • Wow, that's quite a headache to have to deal with! How far out is the wedding?

This. Most venues will cover things like "in the event of hurricanes, floods, riot, civil war, etc outside the means or control of said lessor (venue)". However, if this kind of statement wasn't in the original contract, then unfortunately you're a bit SOL because there's nothing legally binding them to helping you figure things out again.
  • Wow that is def. a lot to deal with, sorry! But, maybe you it will be a blessing in disguise and they really will help you out. Good luck!
  • Talk to a lawyer.  It should be relatively cheap to hire an attorney to send them a demand letter asking them to take certain steps to recify the problem

  • According to another post by the OP, her daughter's wedding is November 23rd of this year, so ~ 7 weeks out.
