Combined Bridal shower/Bachelorette party?

Almost everyone who would attend a bridal shower for me is from out of town or out of state and would incur significant cost to come into town specifically for a bridal shower, so I suggested to my Matron of honor they combine the bridal shower with the bachelorette party and do it all in one night.  We would have it at a house with the idea being bridal shower from like 5-9pm, then have more of a bachelorette type party later in the evening for those who would like to stay (or who it is appropriate for to stay).

Thoughts?

  • This is similar to what I'm thinking, but how do you tactfully say "you're good enough for the low key bridal shower, but not good enough or close enough to me for the 'bachelorette party'" ?

  • I'm doing the same thing.  I going to have an "open house" shower and then directly afterwards, I'm going to start the real party!  I don't think that the older people or the ones that I'm not really close to are going to even want to stick around for that, so I'm not too worried about them staying.  If they do, though, I say the more the merrier.
  • Please don't dig up old threads - the OP is long gone. Feel free to start new ones, though!

    @knotporscha, closure?
  • I think my friends and friends of family are also planning a similar thing since most of the Bp are out of town and I am too! From what I can tell, the plan is to have the shower in the day and then a break for a bit and at that time those who want to do bachelorette stuff can eithet come over to hotel where we are staying or meet up after we go out!
