  Exactly what PP said.  Also, since they aren't issuing new SS cards even if your application was already in the queue you really wouldn't be able to do anything further until you get your new SS card.

  You may still be able to get a new drivers license. They didn't ask to see my social security card when I got a new license - just marriage license. Try calling the DMV in your area and see what proof they need to see if it's the same in your area.

  It depends on your state.  In NJ you don't need a SS card to get a license as long as you have 6 points on ID and the marriage license.  You can't however make it truely official because the aren't issuing new SS cards. My mom's new passport is even being held up.

  Glad I clicked this thread, I didn't think I would be able to do anything unless I had my social security card changed. Just checked the CA DMV site and I only need to bring in the marriage license!

  MoniqueAbrahamsen   in California, they actually do verify you against the SS system. You only need to show up with your marriage license, but, if you haven't changed it at the SS office yet, they won't issue the driver's license.

  CA girl here--I did not need the actual new SS card but I had to bring the form from SS office saying it was in process with my marriage license before DMV would let me apply for the new DL.
